About me

I am a qualified and experienced trauma-Informed Integrative Counsellor and a registered and accredited member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work in person with adults in Rochford, Essex, as well as by telephone and online, and I adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Life can sometimes feel like a choppy sea, with waves of emotion washing over us. Perhaps you are feeling anxious or sad at present, or maybe you are feeling depressed or angry. This may relate to your relationships, your health, work or another issue. Perhaps you are uncertain why you feel as you do; you may even feel unsure what you are feeling, but that you just don’t feel ‘right.’

On occasion, we can all struggle to cope or feel overwhelmed with things that are happening to us. We can even dislike ourselves or our behaviour.

I offer a safe, comfortable and secure space for you to talk about your difficulties and how they are affecting you. I work compassionately, with respect and empathy. Experience has taught me that being heard, understood and responded to by someone who is trained to do so, can help to ride out the storm, restoring an inner feeling of calm.

Training, qualifications & experience

As well as my private practice, I also work for the NHS.  Prior to this I worked for Bupa and for a Counselling Charity in Essex.

Previously, I worked for many years in the public sector. I gained an LLB (Hons) from the University of East London and worked as an Advocate in the Criminal Appeal Court.  I was also employed in the Welfare Department of the Metropolitan Police Service and subsequently worked as a Staff Welfare Officer in the Court Service. I have considerable experience in working with mental health issues, specialising in this area whilst working for a local authority as a Homeless Families Officer and for a leading Housing Association.

During my varied career, I have been fortunate enough to work with people from many diverse backgrounds. Amongst other issues, I have experience working with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, chronic pain and terminal illness, self-harm and self-esteem issues, domestic abuse, relationship difficulties and work-related problems, as well as helping those searching for purpose and meaning.

I understand and accept that your individual experience is purely unique to you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

As an Integrative, trauma-informed Counsellor, I draw upon a range of therapeutic models and approaches. These include Psychodynamic, Person-centered, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Integral Psychotherapy. In my work, I also use therapeutic imagery and other creative approaches, such as drawing. These creative approaches can feel a little easier than talking alone and can improve and enhance wellbeing. I also welcome any material that you may find useful to share, such as drawings, dreams, poems, prose or journals.

By working integratively, I am able to use the most suitable approaches to adapt to your changing needs and requirements. For me, the most important thing is our therapeutic relationship. Research has shown this proves to be the deciding factor in effective and successful therapy.

I hope that in our initial meeting, you will feel able to speak candidly about what brought you to counselling and what your hopes and expectations are. Furthermore, I hope you will feel free to ask any questions you may have. During our meeting I will also explain my policy on confidentiality, fees, appointments and cancellations.

I offer both short-term and open-ended counselling.  Should we agree to work together, we can explore what suits you and work at your pace.
