About me
Hi there, I offer both online and in-person sessions, or a combination of the 2 to suit your circumstances. I currently see clients out of the Cranberry Wellbeing centre in Eastleigh, which is centrally located, within walking distance of the train station & has limited free parking.
My background is in healthcare, but I decided to retrain as a counsellor and set up my private practice. A decision I have never once regretted!
Working with people to help them through trauma, distressing life events, adverse childhood experiences, the knock-on effects of dealing with grief of any sort, the impact of living with long term ill-health, disability or coming to terms with a new diagnosis, truly is my passion. These are some of the many reasons people come to see me, but I also work as a counsellor at local secondary schools with young people (aged 11+) supporting them with friendship issues, self-esteem, self-harm, dealing with the effects of bullying, figuring out their gender identity, supporting them with the impact of divorce and of having a narcissistic parent in their life. In fact, any of those things can apply to adults as well, so if that's something you're still dealing with in adulthood, please know that you are not alone, and it's never too late to seek help.
I provide space for you to talk freely and openly without fear of judgement. I will listen with empathy and support you to explore what you need to at your own pace - with warmth, kindness and occasionally laughter if that feels right too. All emotions, thoughts and feelings are important and part of the healing journey, lets create a space where all and any of them are safe to experience and express.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a degree in Humanistic counselling, based on Transactional Analysis - don't worry if that doesn't mean much to you! The theory is useful, but what's more important is the relationship, feeling safe and being heard. I tend to work in whatever way works best for you and sometimes we might do something creative to explore feelings and relationships that might be difficult to talk about.
I have experience working with all age groups - from secondary school aged children to people in their 80s - it’s never too late to seek help and tackle unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours.
I see a lot of clients dealing with anxiety which manifests for a number of reasons; together we can explore the origins and work on ways to manage it in the here and now.
I have lived experience of dealing with neurodivergence and am comfortable & skilled at supporting individuals who are affected by this - either themselves or with a family member.
In my role as a school counsellor, I am used to creating a safe space for young people to explore LGBTQ+ issues, as well as confidence, self-esteem and the impact of bullying; but this is something I am happy / able to do no matter what your age!
I have a special interest in, and have completed additional training specifically to support victims of Domestic Abuse; I understand the devastating impact of this for individuals and families and am here to help.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
