About me
You might know exactly what you want help with, or you might just know that something needs to change.
I’m Joanna, an integrative and trauma-informed counsellor. I work with people experiencing many different difficulties, but I have a particular interest and experience in trauma and abuse.
For me, counselling isn’t just about having somewhere to talk. It’s also about helping you understand yourself, why you might react in certain ways, where patterns have come from, and how experiences from your past may still be affecting you today.
I’m warm, approachable and down to earth in the way I work. I won’t sit in silence and expect you to do all the talking. Counselling with me is something we do together. I’ll listen, ask questions, share what I notice and, when it feels helpful, offer different ways of looking at or working with what you’re experiencing.
Because I work integratively, our sessions won’t follow a set formula. I can draw on different approaches including Gestalt, inner-child work, chairwork, imagery and nervous-system regulation. Sometimes we may explore things more deeply; other times you may simply need space to talk about what’s happening in your life right now.
Whatever brings you to counselling, my aim is for you to feel that you can be yourself with me, without judgement or pressure.
You don’t have to have experienced trauma to work with me. I support people with anxiety, relationships, low self-esteem, overwhelm, difficult childhood experiences, people-pleasing, feeling disconnected or stuck, as well as emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
I offer a free 20-minute introductory call because I think the relationship you have with your counsellor really matters. It’s an opportunity to have a chat, ask any questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

My counselling experience includes working within a Victim Support project, supporting people who had experienced crime, trauma and abuse, including those navigating ongoing court proceedings. This gave me valuable experience of working with the emotional and psychological impact of traumatic experiences and supporting people through particularly difficult and uncertain periods in their lives.
I currently work from The Devon Clinic, where I receive referrals and support clients with a wide range of difficulties. Alongside this, I run my own private practice, offering both in-person and online counselling.
I have a particular interest in working with trauma and abuse, and I continue to develop my knowledge and practice in this area through ongoing professional development.
