About me

I am a fully qualified therapist, with over ten years of experience working with adults, children and couples in a variety of settings, from schools and hospices to therapy centres and private practice.

Therapy is about having someone alongside you as you examine yourself, your life and your experiences. I will be with you, to support you in your exploration, and to offer the comfort of another's presence as you process those things which challenge you, interest you, or which feel unresolved. It is normal for this process to feel daunting to begin with, but I am committed to remaining sensitive to the pace you need to work at, and staying attuned to how your therapy is progressing. Therapy is a collaborative process, and one which I look forward to beginning with you.

My Background

I began my training in counselling shortly after achieving my undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Kent University, where I graduated with a first-class degree. My background in Philosophy helped me to hone my analytical skills, but I longed for the humanity and fascination with people that had led to study Philosophy in the first place. I turned to counselling to bring me back towards the exploration of people, and lived experience that I felt drawn to.

I completed several qualifications in counselling before going on to achieve my MSc in Counselling Psychology from Keele University.

Since qualifying I have worked in a variety of settings and I have been working in the private practice since 2016.

As a competent and confident therapist, I am able to work with most presenting issues, though I have an increased awareness, experience and training in working with Trauma, both generally and specifically in relation to birth and sexual assault and rape.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
