About me
To find yourself here, you may be experiencing feelings of anxiety or be unsure of what you are hoping to get from counselling, knowing only that you want to feel differently. You may have clear goals or be struggling to see clearly. Feelings of stress or worry may be showing themselves to you through physical tension or trouble sleeping.
Together we can explore the reason you came in a safe and warm environment. I have a passion for connecting with people and entering their unique internal world so that we can explore safely together. I believe that being heard without judgement can be empowering, nurturing and the precursor to change.
You may be at a crossroads in your life, lost a sense of who you are, be struggling to overcome a specific hurdle, or experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety. In the first phone call or email exchange, we can discover if this is something we feel we can navigate together.
We can slowly uncover what might be hidden as a first step to creating real change in your life and how you experience relationships and the world around you.
Everyone experiences life as difficult at some point and talking it through with another can feel a big step, but it can bring relief and be the route to change.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm a qualified integrative counsellor, which means I can draw from different theories and techniques depending on the person and that moment in time. This might include looking into your personal history or tuning in to the moment.
I am currently undertaking further in-depth study into trauma and working somatically with the body.
My background was originally in the publishing, charity and education sectors. I am an animal lover and find strength and peace through being in nature. I find connections and common ground with people from all aspects of life and welcome all.
I have worked in a community counselling service, in a college setting, in a school as staff mental health lead, and facilitated a post-natal support group.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
