About me
You may be feeling like things aren’t right within yourself. You may know exactly why, or you just can’t explain it and you need someone to listen, understand and help you figure things out. Hi, I’m Jen, a qualified and experienced person-centred counsellor and I can be that person for you.
Life can be tough and you can go through experiences that leave you feeling anxious, depressed, lost, confused, overwhelmed and often traumatised. These experiences may be from the past and you just can’t move on, or you may have been knocked off balance by a serious life event, such as a bereavement or relationship breakdown. Your life may be on a path that feels empty but you don’t know how to change. You may have locked painful feelings away for years and you know this isn’t working anymore or you may be flooded with emotions that you find hard to control.
Be reassured that there is a new, better path for you where you can be free of these emotions that hold you back and live the happy and fulfilling life that you deserve. Whatever you are going through, your feelings are important and finding the right counsellor can enable you to begin to make sense of things, make the changes you want to and live a more fulfilling life.
How I work
I am a fully qualified person-centred counsellor with a wealth of experience working therapeutically with clients of all ages, backgrounds and problems. I will provide a space for you that makes you feel safe to explore whatever is happening for you right now. I will never judge you and instead will work alongside you, giving you the confidence, support and guidance you need to discover why you feel like you do, and how to make things work differently. My warm, friendly nature will enable you to relax and open up in ways that you would not to friends and family, and I feel privileged to have seen the life changing results this has had for my clients.
My Practice
I work in a safe, comfortable and confidential room in Lathom, just outside of Ormskirk, and offer face-to-face, online or telephone sessions to suit whatever you would prefer. If you struggle with technology, don’t worry, I will make it as easy and accessible as possible. For face-to-face clients, be reassured that parking is free, easy and accessible. I tailor the number of sessions to you therefore you can have as many or as few as what feels right. I work flexible hours, and offer evening and weekend sessions to fit around your schedule.
Introductory Call
To answer any questions you have and to help you with your decision, I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to see if I am a good fit for you and to discuss the potential help I can offer. If you decide to go ahead with therapy, we can arrange a time that works best for you. The 50-60 minute sessions can take place weekly, fortnightly or monthly, however weekly sessions are recommended, and the number of sessions can be as few or as many as you feel appropriate.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked as a counsellor in a number of organisations and charities alongside private practice, providing counselling to adults and young people. I have supported my adult clients with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues and bereavement. I have also worked extensively with adults affected by rape and sexual abuse.
I have a long history working in education and I am trained in supporting children aged 8-18 through a combination of person-centred therapy and CBT. Many of the children and young people that I work with struggle with self-harm, suicidal ideation, bullying, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem and I use a range of techniques to create a relaxed and comfortable space where they feel safe to open up.
I have extensive training in supporting children and adults with autism and/or ADHD. I offer a safe, friendly and accepting space where they can be themselves, where they can be seen, heard and understood without pressure to mask or explain.
I am a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and the British Psychological Society and work in accordance with their Ethical Guidelines and Framework. I have a DBS, indemnity insurance and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
