About me

About me

I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor, registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council. I offer weekly counselling with adults of all ages and backgrounds. I work in private practice in Bristol, and offer some limited work online. I also work for two charitable organisations in the South West.

How I work

I offer a safe and welcoming space in which you can talk in confidence about what is troubling you. Reaching out for the support of counselling can be a daunting process whatever it is you are currently facing. It often happens at a point when there is a feeling of being stuck, unable to find a way forward, or overwhelmed by difficulties which seem not to shift without support. Over time, this kind of experience can etch away at our confidence in ourselves in the world. Having the support of a counsellor can be very helpful. I do not impose a prescribed treatment plan on the counselling work, rather I work alongside you at your particular starting point to help you in making sense of things and finding a way forward.

In the counselling, we will work together to build a deeper understanding of your current difficulties and the ways they may link with earlier experiences. The process of allowing these links to emerge, can lead to a greater insight into ourselves, our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. This insight can be a very helpful in opening up new possibilities in our approach to life and relationships. I believe this kind of change is possible at any stage in life. This in essence, is a psychodynamic approach.

I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of individuals of differing backgrounds and experiences. I am attentive to this, as and when helpful in your counselling journey.

What to expect at the start

After a brief phone call, I arrange an initial introductory session where you can meet me and we can discuss your needs. This introductory session is offered at a reduced rate of £30.

All sessions last 50 minutes and my fee is £55 per session.

Training, qualifications & experience

I did my Psychodynamic Counselling training at Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy (WCP) in Frome. I am a member of the Post-Graduate Group at WCP and continue to take part a range of approved ongoing trainings as part of my continuing professional development as a Counsellor.

In addition to Private Practice, I work for Womankind in Bristol and WCP, for whom I also carry out clinical assessments.

British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
