Clinical Psychologist

About me

I'm a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with a particular interest in supporting people to explore questions of identity, relationships, belonging, neurodivergence, gender, and sexuality. I work with adults, children and young people, families and professionals facing a wide range of emotional, relational and life challenges. I have extensive experience of working with mental health difficulties and issues of identity both privately and in the NHS.

My main method of working is with Narrative Therapy, which is based on the idea that people are more than the problems they experience. Rather than viewing difficulties as defining who we are, Narrative Therapy helps us explore the stories we tell about ourselves, identify the values and strengths that may have been overlooked, and develop alternative narratives that support growth, resilience and change. In my experience this approach is particularly helpful for those who have previously experienced mental health interventions as overly pressurising, lacking in understanding, or pathologising.

My approach is collaborative, creative and curious. I aim to create a reflective space where people and families can make sense of their experiences, reconnect with what matters most to them, and move towards a life that feels more aligned with their values and hopes for the future.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, and have completed further training with the Institute of Narrative Therapy. I am a visiting lecturer to the Lancaster University Clinical Psychology Doctoral programme.

I have worked in NHS mental health settings for 15 years. I have specialised in working in child and family services, psychosexual services, with neurodivergent people, with trauma and abuse, and with those who hear voices.

I frequently work with transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people and am happy to provide a safe space to explore issues related to these identities and experiences.

I am neurodivergent, and have extensive experience of working with neurodivergent people and families, particularly in the areas of justice sensitivity and rejection sensitivity. Statutory provision for neurodivergent people presently tends to end following diagnosis, and I understand the importance of having a space in which to work through the sense-making around identity and relationships both while awaiting and following assessment.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
