Individual, Couple, Families and EMDR Psychotherapist

About me

There are lots of reasons why people decide it is the right time to access support. Psychotherapy is different to relationships with friends and family and provides a unique opportunity for you to talk through your concerns in a space where my focus is on you, this can be on-line or face-to-face in a quiet convenient garden office.

I offer Couple Therapy, Family Therapy, and Individual Psychotherapy including EMDR and for colleagues I offer Professional Supervision in an approachable transparent way. My training for all offers is accredited and extensive.  I work privately on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and can offer face to face or on-line appointments.

Individual psychotherapy, I offer long term and short term work for adults and young people over 12 years of age. I seek to generate a therapeutic alliance that will support the changes or difference wanted. Sessions are available bi-weekly or with flexibility.

EMDR Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing is available through initial consultation and assessment. I am EMDR trained through a recognised accredited training course.

I have extensive training and experience working including and not limited to, Depression, Anxiety, Work related Stress, Sexual Abuse. Family Issues, Trauma, Loss, Relationship Problems, Divorce, Separation, Parenting, Step-Parenting, Co-parenting, Affairs, Relationship Secrets/ Betrayal, Loneliness, Long term health problems, Caring for a child or parent with life changing diagnosis, Loss and Grief. I have training and relevant experience to support neurodivergence - diagnosed or suspected particularly in the couple or parent child relationship.

Couples Therapy

Often couples coming to therapy are stuck having tried everything themselves to make things better and may be thinking about whether to stay together or separate. Or perhaps you are facing changes in mental or physical health for you or someone in your wider family or work stresses that were unexpected and finding it difficult to navigate this together? Therapy can offer a space unique from any other environment to explore what is happening and find different ways of communicating. Couples psychotherapy is usually held every 2 to 3 weeks over 6 to 12 sessions depending on what you would like from coming. We will agree the outcomes and monitor what you are seeking individually and collectively to achieve as part of our together.

Family Relationship Psychotherapy

Families come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes a deadlock has been reached, this might be over several years or more recently and this stuckness repeats. Complicated adult family dynamics where generational trauma is present can be unravelled and unpicked helping families move forward to break the chain. As a systemic psychotherapist we think about and focus our intervention around the blame not being located in an individual and seek to find a way to support the family system finding better ways of navigating difficulties. My pathway has offered me extensive experience in supporting step-family, blended family and where non biological parents are taking a primary role.

Supervision

I am passionate about supervision, I have been in the fortunate position to have had what I have experienced as amazing supervision throughout my career. I have completed 3 years of post graduate training successfully so I am able to offer systemic supervision and supervision for counsellors. My varied work means I have experience of many different modalities. It is my aim to be as good as the supervision I have had and I strive to do this.

About Me

I am in my 50s and have had different life experiences that led me to my career choice of psychotherapist around 15 years ago revisiting counselling training that I had undertaken 30 years ago. My practice is located within easy reach of Uttoxeter, Ashbourne, Abbots Bromley, Stafford, Burton upon Trent, Stoke on Trent in a private quiet setting. I enjoy being outside wherever possible, spending time with my family and when time permits I compete on my horse in a range of disciplines. I have personal experience of complicated relationships, neurodivergent relationships, marriage, divorce, sexual imbalances, being a step-parent, parenting, relocation to different areas, running a business in a global financial crisis, long term health conditions. My personal experience as well as interest in research and evidence practice informs my approach.

Experience

I am currently a senior Systemic Psychotherapist and Supervisor working for the NHS in CAHMS delivering Family Therapy alongside private work. Prior to this, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience firstly training to work with individuals then couples and families in various different settings employed in both the voluntary sector and the NHS alongside private practice. My roles have provided me with extensive knowledge and understanding working with trauma and sexual abuse, long and short term carers of varying ages, young people and adults coming to terms with ASD or ADHD diagnosis and attachment difficulties negatively impacting day to day life. My private therapy work whilst broad and varied has offered me such generosity in variation in experience of couple difficulties and relationship problems, it has been a privilege that contributes, alongside my continual pursuit of knowledge and understanding to be the best therapist I can.
