About me

My name is Jane Barnes, and I am a qualified BACP registered counsellor. I have worked in counselling and education for the past 20 years. I offer individual and couples counselling and I have a private room in Kings Somborne, near Romsey, where I work face to face and also online.

Individual Therapy

I am an integrative therapist which means I bring together various aspects of my experience and training to offer an individual, tailored approach offering long term and short term therapy. I offer a safe, calm and reflective space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and identify patterns of behaviour or core beliefs that are out of your awareness and not helping you live your best life. You may feel lost or stuck in repeating patterns, struggle with anxiety, feel depressed, hopeless, or just feel you are not where you want to be. Doing the work on yourself can be hard and it is challenging at times but the benefits will release you from your suffering and will set you free.

Couples Therapy

Every relationship has its own rhythm - times of closeness, distance and inevitable life changes that test your connection. Whether you are feeling stuck in repeating patterns, struggling to communicate or are finding it hard to rebuild trust, couples therapy can help you to understand what is happening beneath the surface and start moving forward in a healthy way. I offer a calm and supportive space where both partners feel heard and respected. I will not take sides but help you to see patterns of behaviour that are not serving you and offer new ways to relate that bring more openness, honesty and understanding.

I offer a free 20 minute telephone call to give you a chance to find out more about me and how we might work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in Transactional Analysis and Integrative Humanistic Modalities, looking at the past to understand the present and create an awareness of current patterns of behaviour that might not be working for you. Together we can explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that may well be affecting your self-esteem, your relationships with friends and family and also in the workplace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
