About me

Hello & Welcome, I'm Jan.

I am an integrative Counsellor based in Poets Corner, which is in the heart of HOVE.

You might be wondering ‘why choose Counselling rather than just talking to family or friends?’ Good question. One reason is that Therapy gives you the opportunity to devote an hour entirely on yourself whereby you can talk about anything and be taken seriously. Some people say the healing process starts the moment they feel they are heard. Talking things through allows you to completely focus your attention on your thoughts, feelings and emotions.

Counselling provides a space where you are able to explore and be yourself without judgement or being told what you should do.

For therapy to be most effective it is important that we feel comfortable together, therefore, at our initial meeting we will outline your situation, talk about confidentiality, and discuss any concerns you may have regarding counselling. Following that, we can decide if we would like to work together.

Whatever is troubling you may be difficult to voice. Sometimes it’s a struggle to find the words to explain. You may have lost your way and need some help to rediscover yourself. Being in a position to say aloud those weird or frightening thoughts that have been going around in your mind is liberating. This is often a new experience for many people but it is the first repairable step to your real and sometimes scary world.

All of us are unique individuals and as such, my approach is different for each person. Sometimes we will explore and look at past behaviours & patterns and how they affect the present time and sometimes we will work in a short term solution-focused way.

My aim, as your therapist, is to work alongside you whilst guiding and helping you to find your own solutions.

I work alongside individuals and couples, that are in difficult situations. These range from relationship issues, affairs & betrayal, separation & divorce, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, child sexual abuse, child neglect, family issues, identification, addictions, phobias, anger issues, transgender, and much more.

I have recently gained my Diploma in Pilates. Either on it's own or along with some Mindfulness training, this is very beneficial for anxiety, stress, relaxation, sleeplessness, and general well being. I am currently looking for premises to run my classes.

Ongoing training: I am currently working towards my Diploma in Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Ongoing training: I am currently working towards my Diploma for Yoga which I hope to offer clients and incorporate into my existing Pilates, mindfulness, & well being practice.

One to one counselling is £35 for 1 hour.

Relationship Counselling is £45 for 1 hour.

Please ask about block booking discounts.

Along with my face to face Counselling I offer therapy via Video calling, email and  telephone. These types of consultations are a new way forward for busy people who do not have the time to meet up. Also this is convenient for others that are out of the area but would still like support. Please ask.

I also offer home visits. You may benefit from this if you are housebound or find it difficult to go out or it may be that you prefer to stay in the comfort of your own surroundings. You may have small children and find it difficult to get out easily, if so, this type of therapy is ideal for you.

For clients that I visit in their home there is an additional charge of £10 to cover travel expenses. (Within a 6 mile radius)

For video, mail, telephone, & home visits payment is required in advance by bank transfer.

Concessions are available for unemployed or under 18 clients.

Cancellations:If possible, I require at least 24 hours notice. If this cannot be met then a 50% cancellation charge of your normal fee will be made.

Walking & Talking Therapy

This is a new way forward for people who prefer to be in the open air.

Walking & Talking is very therapeutic and can ease anxiety for some people that struggle to be static.

We will walk side by side in a place of your choice. It usually takes place along the beach promenade but can be in a local park if preferred.

Pets (on a leash) are welcome to join us.

I can usually offer a car parking space but in the unfortunate case that this isn't possible, street parking is available. I am on ground floor level. Aldrington & Hove stations are within minutes as are a large selection of buses. 2,46,49,5,5a,5b, & more


I am available: Monday – Friday 10am & 8pm. Saturday: 10.am - 1pm In some circumstances I can offer earlier/later appointments. Please ask.
