Jan Diaz Penfold Pg-Dip
After living and working abroad within the tourist industry for a number of years I decided to move back to the UK to take up some further studies. I studied at various colleges all over London and eventually after moving to the south coast, I gained my Diploma in Worthing, West Sussex.
For more information about me and how I work you can access my website (address above) where you will also find my blogs & some testimonials.
My integrative training allows me to work with a variety of different approaches and theories. This means that I use skills from different therapies and can work with you to produce a particular therapy adapted to suit your individual and unique needs. There are as many issues as there are individuals, and just as many different ways of dealing successfully with them.
I work alongside individual adults, couples, and minors that are in difficult situations. These range from relationship issues, affairs & betrayal, separation & divorce, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, child sexual abuse, child neglect, family issues, addictions, phobias, and more.
The therapeutic relationship -
Therapy is a private and very personal experience whereby a safe and confidential atmosphere is required. I offer a non-judgemental, therapeutic relationship in which you can explore anxieties and personal or difficult issues that may be causing you distress. My therapy is completely client led with my main focus on humanistic and existential ideas. This concentrates on living in the moment.
How counselling can help -
When faced with difficult times you can feel isolated and it might not be easy to find someone you can trust; someone who is not directly involved in your situation that can help you. You might be in emotional pain or in a daunting situation. You might be suffering from a loss, a traumatic experience, or betrayal and you may be feeling very alone. You do not have to feel alone. By working alongside you, I can support you emotionally and mentally. Counselling sessions can bring about a true resolution that unfolds at your own pace and in a way that suits you. This can help you to fully enjoy yourself in the here-and-now, whilst continuing to explore and fulfill your potential.
With the right support, it can make a difference.

For therapy to be most effective it is important that we feel comfortable together, therefore, at our initial meeting we will outline your situation, talk about confidentiality, and discuss any concerns you may have regarding counselling. Following that, we can decide if we would like to work together.
One to one counselling is £35 for 50 minutes or £50 for 80 minutes.
Relationship Counselling is £45 for 50 minutes or £60 for a 80 minutes.
Concessions are available for unemployed or under 18 clients.
Along with my face to face Counselling I offer therapy via email as well as telephone consultations. This appears to be a new way forward for busy people who do not have the time to meet up. Also this is convenient for others that are out of the area but would still like support.
The fee for email clients is £20.
The fee for telephone clients is £20 for 30 minutes.
I also offer home visits. You may benefit from this if you are housebound or find it difficult to go out or it may be that you prefer to stay in the comfort of your own surroundings. You may have small children and find it difficult to get out easily, if so, this type of therapy is ideal for you.
For clients that I visit in their home there is an additional charge of £15 to cover travel expenses. (Within a 6 mile radius)
For mail, telephone, & home visit therapy I require payment in advance by bank transfer.
Cancellations: – If possible, I require at least 24 hours notice. If this cannot be met then a 50% cancellation charge of your normal fee will be made.
