About me

Thanks for your interest in knowing a bit more about me. I grew up in Colombia and moved to London in 1994, relocating again to live in Jersey in 2018. I have a teaching background and graduated as a Systemic and Family Psychotherapist and then as a Systemic teacher, trainer and supervisor in 2000.  I work with individuals, couples and families. My career has been mainly working in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), education and charities. I offer clinical supervision, deliver training, have lectured and provided systemic consultation to mental health teams, educational settings and Social Care. My areas of expertise include working with self harm and suicide, eating disorders, out of parental control teens, estranged families, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and helping people in crisis and when not at their best.  I have attended extensive training and worked in teams at the forefront of clinical excellence and innovative practice. I am a keen kayaker, love nature and animals.

The therapy I offer is Systemic and Family Psychotherapy which is an evidence based treatment that aims to reduce internal and relational conflict and the difficult feelings and emotions that are associated with this.  Rather than seeing one person as the problem I think about the more or less useful patterns of interaction and the dynamics that happen between people. In this process the negative patterns are the problem, not you.

When working with groups of people I try to create a space for everyone to be listened to. I also aim to minimize blame, guilt and shame. Conversations in therapy tend to include humour and incorporate other aspects of lived experience which bring you a sense of achievement, choice, joy and connection.

Through almost 30 years of practice I have trained in various therapeutic  interventions. I value diversity in all its forms and have lived a life rich in experiences, some more challenging than others.  I have grown within different cultural and professional contexts.

Feeling that you connect with your therapist is a major contribution for change to happen. You will know early on during our work together if you feel I “get you” and if we “click” in a way that I can help you/your family. Our work and it’s usefulness will be regularly reviewed.

Importantly, I believe that stuck patterns in families can sometimes be resolved in a short number of sessions. Sometimes one or two meetings can be enough to mobilise change.  Equally, you may choose to engage in therapy for a longer number of sessions.  Some treatments, for example EMDR for complex trauma will require more frequent/intensive work.
