About me
Hi, I'm Helen. Let's have a chat and see if my style suits you. I believe that in therapy, we are a team, working together to help you manage the challenges that you are facing. The world is a complicated place, and together we can try to find ways that you can move through it more confidently, happily, and peacefully.
Please note: I am not currently accepting new clients in York.
I am an integrative, relational therapist, which means that I use a range of therapeutic approaches and believe that what happens in our relationships is key to how we feel.
In sessions, I am flexible and adapt to your needs. My work is grounded in a person-centred approach, which means that within each session, your wants and needs are our core focus. Sessions are unstructured, and we shape them together, based on what feels important for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Level 7 PgDip from the University of Leeds and will complete my Master's in August.
I have worked as a therapist for 2 years, in a voluntary capacity, both online and in-person. My clients have been between the ages of 18 and 70, from all kinds of different backgrounds, and with all kinds of different challenges. Please see the full range of issues I have worked with listed below.
I am particularly experienced in bereavement work, having worked with many bereaved people and volunteered for a year as a co-facilitator of a bereavement group. I also volunteer as a Recovery Support Worker for a national charity, so I have a solid understanding of addiction and its impact on individuals, their families, and networks.
I have also pursued additional training in working with neurodivergence and working with OCD, due to having worked with a proportionately high number of people living with these experiences.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
