About me

Hi! I'm Helen, welcome to my profile.

This way together, counselling with Helen Ivison is a counselling service based in Carlisle, Cumbria. I currently offer in-person sessions based in my city centre office, online sessions, and personalised business solutions across Cumbria and the UK.

I am a dedicated counsellor with a passion for helping individuals achieve emotional well-being. I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment for my clients, allowing them to explore their thoughts and feelings without judgment.

With a person-centred approach, I focus on the unique needs of each individual, promoting self-discovery and personal growth.

I work with anyone over the age of 16yrs.

I offer counselling support for a range of issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Stress
  • Life changes

This is a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you.

Person-centred counselling focuses on understanding your unique experience and supporting you to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

Counselling can help you develop greater self-understanding, process difficult emotions, and find ways to move forward that feel right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am fully trained and hold a  BSc Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am professionally insured and I’m a member of the BACP, which is the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. This means I follow their professional standards and ethical guidelines, and I’m committed to ongoing learning and development. For you, it means you can feel reassured that I’m working safely, professionally, and always with your best interests at heart.

My training hours were undertaken within a residential addiction service and as such I have gained additional knowledge and understanding of working alongside a 12 step recovery program with counselling sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
