About me

Counselling for Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-Confidence, Identity Issues, Personal Growth, Grief, Pet Bereavement, Stress, Life Changes, Trauma, loneliness and Relationship Difficulties – in Banstead & Online

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress or grief, searching for self-understanding, or struggling with the impact of neglect, bullying, trauma, life changes or feeling stuck, you may be looking for a safe place to talk things through. Counselling can help you make sense of what’s happening and begin to find new ways to cope.

I am here to support you on your journey towards greater self-understanding, healing and inner peace.

I am a Psychodynamic therapist, a form of counselling that helps people understand how past experiences and unconscious feelings influence the way they think, feel and behave today. By gently exploring patterns in relationships, emotions and earlier life experiences, this approach can help you gain insight into yourself and make positive changes in your life. I also integrate other therapeutic approaches when they may be helpful for your individual needs.

I offer a safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or shame. Together we can begin to make sense of the areas of life you find most challenging. Whether you are feeling lost, grieving, disappointed, depressed, fearful, or weighed down by shame, you don’t have to face it alone.

I believe we all hold our own answers and sense of truth. Within the counselling room, I will walk alongside you with acceptance and compassion as you discover and reconnect with yours.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

If you have never had counselling, it can seem a daunting task with questions such as "what am I meant to say?", "will I like the counsellor?", "will they like me?", "does that even matter?". For this reason, the initial sessions will be centred around you getting a sense of how I work in a completely non-judgmental way, allowing you to ask any questions about the counselling process and to get an idea of whether you feel I would be the right counsellor to assist you on your journey of self-discovery.

There is no initial commitment to therapy, if you decide to continue after the initial sessions, I would recommend weekly sessions for as long as you feel this is right for you.

Further information

It seems something of a paradox to be ourselves whilst simultaneously wondering who we really are. There can be a sense that somewhere along our path in life, we either never met or perhaps lost contact with the person we were, or who we feel we were meant to be. The "self" becomes blurred, hidden beneath layers of expectation, responsibility, and habit.

Generally, this is not a question we ask or give any real thought to until a moment of emotional or mental disruption when we are compelled to do so. It might be in times of loss, transition, or deep dissatisfaction, when the roles we have played suddenly feel hollow or inadequate.

Perhaps the question of identity is not a problem to be solved once and for all, but rather a lifelong dialogue with ourselves, a reminder that who we are is not static, but something unfolding, shaped by both what we gain and what we let go of along the way.

There are no right or wrong ways of being you. My role is to provide a completely judgment-free environment where you can explore all aspects of yourself with compassion and understanding. Life becomes much more peaceful when you have an understanding of who you are, and I'm here to support you in that discovery without any criticism or preconceived notions about how you should be.
