About me
Hi there, I am Helen, a qualified therapeutic counsellor offering in-person and online counselling to adults aged 18 +, based outside Reading in a village called Sonning.
I believe that counselling is a collaborative process. Together, we can explore the things that are important to you, in a safe and supportive space.
I offer short-term counselling of 1–6 sessions, as well as open-ended counselling, depending on your individual needs and what feels right for you.
I am an integrative counsellor; I draw on different therapeutic models to create a way of working that is tailored to you.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice. I offer a space, grounded in kindness and compassion without judgement, where you can feel heard, understood and accepted.
I understand that counselling can seem daunting, so I offer a free consultation to see if therapy with me feels right for you.
Each session is 50 minutes long and we talk about whatever you choose to talk about. I am not going to offer advice and tell you what to do. You are the expert on you!
I may offer a gentle challenge and we will work together to identify patterns and ways that no longer serve you. I will be guided by you on what you want to talk about.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualified Integrative Counsellor Dip MBACP.
I am experienced working in-person with adults (18+) on a wide range of presenting issues.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a professional body for counsellors and psychotherapists. I work within the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Profession, which guides my practice and supports the safety and wellbeing of my clients.
As part of my ongoing professional development, I engage in regular supervision and continuing professional development (CPD). This helps me continue to develop my practice, knowledge and skills.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
