About me

We all get periods when we feel low, anxious, stressed, stuck or confused and need extra support. Friends and family are great at these times. However, sometimes the additional help of someone with psychological training and experience is invaluable in order to help you to look at things from a different perspective.

We are made up of many psychological parts or layers, some of which are outside our awareness. In-depth counselling or psychotherapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, bringing hidden aspects of yourself back into awareness. With this increased awareness, it is possible to find a deeper compassion for self. This helps to restore psychological well-being, which feels a bit like putting the pieces of a 'jigsaw' back together. It is very liberating and can help you gain clarity in how to move forward or live a more authentic & fulfilling life.

Choosing the right person to support you in this work can be a little overwhelming. It is important that you feel comfortable, safe and fully seen & heard. I offer a free initial phone call, video session or in-person appointment of up to half an hour in order to help you make this decision. We might then decide to work together short term on something specific or longer term with more complex issues.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BA (Hons) in Psychology (Sheffield University) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (Birmingham University).

I am UKCP accredited and regularly attend further CPD training.

I have been in private practice for 16 years and have 6 years of experience working in an NHS counselling setting.

At Compassionate Counselling my approach is integrative. This means that I am trained and experienced in using a range of psychotherapy theories and methods from Psychodynamic and Humanistic traditions. I also use mindfulness techniques, A.C.T. (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), N.L.P. (Neuro linguistic programming), E.F.T. (Emotional freedom technique) and creative counselling techniques where I consider these would be helpful. What this means for you is that just as you are unique, my approach will be uniquely tailored to suit your particular needs .
