About me

I am person-centred, trauma-informed counsellor working in the United Kingdom with 4 years of professional work experience with both adults and children. I can help clients in a number of different areas including but not limited to anxiety, trauma, abuse, bereavement, loss, self esteem issues and the impact of any other significant life event. I offer a safe, therapeutic, confidential space for you to talk about concerns or issues in your life. My role is to guide you through the counselling process without judgement. I will not tell you what to do unless the session involves practical advice which you specifically ask for and which I can offer. The process requires your commitment and honesty both with yourself and with me, as your therapist. For my part, I have a genuine therapeutic intent, offering commitment, honesty and the utmost respect for you as an individual. By engaging in therapy you are taking the first courageous steps to resolving the issues you are trying to work through. I consider it a privilege to be part of your journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a PG Dip in Person Centred Counselling from the University of Aberdeen, a Specialist Certificate in Working with Children and Young People and qualifications in ADHD Awareness, Eating Psychology Coaching and Safeguarding.

In addition to my private practice I work two days per week as an Occupational Health Counsellor with NHS Grampian.

I have experience working with primary school age children as well as students and young people up to the age of seventeen at a number of different schools and colleges.

I previously worked as a Volunteer Counsellor with ACIS and have been a Listening Volunteer with the Samaritans.

I am a qualified Life Coach, SVQ Assessor and have worked as an alumni mentor for RGU.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

One of the most important elements of talking therapy is your relationship with your therapist so I offer an initial 30 minute telephone call which Ido not charge for. This initial chat will give us the opportunity to get to know one another a little better and help you identify whether I am the right therapist for you.

When I work

I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and also a Thursday evening.

Please get in touch if you would like to book at a different time and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
