About me

Choosing a counsellor can feel overwhelming, especially if this is your first time reaching out. You might be feeling anxious or low, navigating grief or trauma, awaiting an ADHD or autism assessment, struggling with fertility, or facing a big life change. You may just know that something doesn’t feel right and want space to make sense of it.

You don’t have to go through it alone.

Hi, I’m Gemma. I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can be fully yourself. I work collaboratively and at your pace, helping you develop deeper self-understanding, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self.

I currently work as a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist at a charity supporting men in suicidal crisis. I also work within a cancer support charity, supporting people who are terminally ill, living with long-term conditions, and their loved ones. Alongside this, I offer private counselling sessions both in-person and online.

I am an NCPS accredited Psychotherapist and a registered member of the BACP, with experience supporting clients with:

Anxiety and depression
Trauma and complex trauma
Grief and bereavement
Suicide and suicidal thoughts
ADHD and autism (including those awaiting diagnosis)
Chronic and long-term health conditions
Terminal illness and cancer support
Fertility issues and IVF
Relationship difficulties and breakups
Major life changes and identity exploration
LGBTQIA+ / GSRD-affirmative therapy

Lived experience & specialist understanding
Alongside professional training, I bring lived experience of chronic illness and suicide bereavement. This allows me to offer a depth of empathy and understanding that many clients find especially meaningful.

Much of my work focuses on trauma, grief, neurodivergence, and long-term health conditions, including Endometriosis, Crohn’s disease, cancer, and degenerative conditions. I am also a qualified fertility counsellor, supporting individuals and couples through IVF and other fertility pathways.

I am passionate about offering affirmative therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients, including trans, gender diverse, and gender non-conforming people. I understand the unique emotional, relational, and societal challenges that can arise around identity, transition, and belonging, and I work in a way that is respectful, informed, and empowering.

My background is in social care, where I supported adults with learning and physical disabilities for over eight years. I also have experience working in events, theatre, and live music, which has shaped my appreciation for creativity, individuality, and self-expression.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
