About me

I am Gaya, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I work with adults, young people, and families across a wide range of presentations, drawing on evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed approaches within a pluralistic framework. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore what is bringing you to therapy at your own pace. I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is central to meaningful change, and I invest time in understanding your unique experiences, values, and goals before we begin any therapeutic work together. Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time or have had previous experience of psychological support, I will work with you to find an approach that feels right for you.

I work with a broad range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis and complex mental health conditions, eating disorders, and child and adolescent mental health. I also have a specialist interest in cultural psychology, and I am experienced in supporting clients from ethnic minority backgrounds, where culture, identity, and lived experience are woven meaningfully into the work.

Sessions are tailored to your individual needs and draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic models, always guided by what works best for you rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I offer an initial consultation to explore whether we are a good fit, with sessions available online.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DCounsPsy), which included rigorous training across a range of clinical settings and therapeutic modalities. I am a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist. I have substantial experience working within NHS inpatient and community settings, including specialist work in psychosis and psychiatric rehabilitation. This has given me a strong foundation in working with complex and enduring mental health conditions, risk assessment, and formulation-led practice. Alongside my NHS experience, I have trained in and regularly apply a range of specialist therapeutic approaches, including CBT, CBT for Psychosis, CBT for Eating Disorders, ACT, CFT, CFT for Eating Disorders, and MANTRA. I hold a particular interest in cultural psychology and have developed expertise in culturally adapted formulation and intervention. My experience spans work with adults, children and young people, and families across a range of presentations including anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis, eating disorders, and difficulties related to cultural identity and adjustment. I am committed to ongoing professional development and work in line with HCPC standards of proficiency and the BPS Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Additional information

My standard fee is £80 per 50-minute session. I review fees periodically and will always give adequate notice of any changes. I offer a free initial telephone consultation of approximately 30 minutes, so that you can ask any questions you may have, get a sense of how I work, and we can explore together whether I am the right fit for your needs. There is no obligation to book following this call. Payment is requested prior to or at the time of each session. I have a cancellation policy in place and ask for a minimum of 48 hours notice where possible, to allow the appointment to be offered to someone else. If you have any questions about fees or would like to discuss your individual circumstances before booking, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
