About me
Hi, I’m Gail, a trauma‑informed therapist and EMDR practitioner. Whether this is your first time considering therapy or you've accessed support before, I’m glad you’re here. Seeking help can feel daunting, and finding the right therapist even more so. My aim is always to offer a calm, supportive space where you can explore what’s happening in your life at a pace that feels manageable.
You may be feeling low, anxious, or simply not yourself. Everyday tasks might feel harder, or you may struggle to find motivation or joy. Do you feel consumed by anxiety and exhausted from trying to manage it. Perhaps you’re overthinking, doubting yourself, or being far more critical of yourself than you would ever be of anyone else. You might be someone who keeps going for others, even when you’re running on empty.
Relationships can feel complicated too. You may find trust or intimacy hard, or notice yourself seeking reassurance. Grief, sadness, loss, or big life changes might be shaping how you feel. Work pressures, health worries, or ongoing stress can leave you feeling overwhelmed. Family life may bring its own challenges — parenting, conflict, or the weight of supporting others. You may be struggling with the impact of a traumatic experience or you might be unsure why you feel the way you do.
If any of this sounds familiar, you don’t have to face it alone. Maybe the way you are feeling isn't mentioned here. If you are not sure where to start I can assist you in identifying your goals and what you wish to focus on. Therapy is not only for crisis it can also be a space for creating clarity, providing connection and a space for reflection and personal development when feeling stuck. Whatever your reasons for considering counselling, they are valid.
I believe therapy is something we do together, a collaborative process that helps you make sense of things, to identify and reconnect with your own resources, gain a deeper understanding of self & empower you to move forward in a different way. I will help you to untangle those aspects of your life which feel problematic or distressing and gain greater clarity on your situation. I can support you to understand your behaviour, your coping mechanisms and your thought processes. All of which can help support change.
We can work in the here and now, looking at practical strategies to cope. We can also explore your history, significant events and experiences which may have shaped you, if this is something you are curious to do. My aim is to help you to make connections, find ways to articulate what is going on for you internally and gain new insight. We can't always think our way out of our problems, we have to feel our way out too. This can mean lending attention to emotions and what is going on in our body too.
I welcome people from all backgrounds and am committed to working in an inclusive and anti‑discriminatory way. I offer a safe and affirming space where you can feel heard and accepted as you are. I value working with people of all genders and identities, those within the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
How I work
My approach is person‑centred and trauma‑informed, grounded in emotional safety, respect, and partnership. For me, safety isn’t the absence of threat but the presence of connection. You set the pace, and together we explore what feels important to you. I work relationally, using trust and curiosity to support insight, stability, and meaningful change.
As an EMDR practitioner, I offer EMDR when appropriate. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a type of therapy that helps the brain to process difficult experiences or traumatic memories safely and effectively. When we experience something very stressful or traumatic it can become stuck in our memory networks and triggered in the present.
Bilateral stimulation is used to gently access those memories and support the brain's natural healing process, thus reducing the emotional intensity. You can then remember, without re-experiencing. You are in control throughout the process. We will always discuss this together so you feel fully informed before going ahead. Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
