About us
Every person carries a whole story: the experiences that shaped them, the ones still being written, and the parts not yet spoken aloud. My work is about creating a space where all of it is welcome, and where you can be met as a whole person rather than a problem to be solved. I'm Fiona, a Person-Centred Counsellor based in Scotland, and I'd be honoured to walk alongside you.
My background
I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, awarded with Distinction, and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. I am registered with both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland), and I work to the ethical standards of both bodies. I see clients in person in Aberdeen and online throughout the UK. I am committed to ongoing professional development, and I continue to deepen my training in areas closely connected to my practice.
Why person-centred
What drew me to this way of working, and what keeps me here, is its commitment to seeing the whole person, its belief in equality, and its trust in self-directed change. Carl Rogers held something quite radical: that people, given the right conditions, have everything they need within them to grow, heal, and find their own way forward. That belief shapes everything about how I practise.
A particular interest in trauma and the body
I have a particular interest in how trauma is held in the body, and how it can show up in many different ways, sometimes long after the events themselves. The mind and body aren't separate, and what we've lived through often lives on in how we feel, move, and respond to the world. I bring this awareness gently into our work, at your pace and on your terms.
Training, qualifications & experience
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor, registered with both the BACP and COSCA. My training and ongoing professional development reflect a deep commitment to providing compassionate, ethical, and trauma-informed support.
Qualifications
Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling
BSc (Hons) Psychology
Trauma-Informed Counselling (The Open University)
My Continuing Professional Development
I am committed to ongoing learning, so that my practice stays current and responsive to the diverse experiences of those I work with. I keep my knowledge and skills up to date across a number of areas I support people with, including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Loss and bereavement
- Infant loss (Foundation for Infant Loss)
- Supporting survivors of sexual abuse
I also take care to keep my practice informed and inclusive. I work in a way that is neurodivergent-informed and LGBTQIA+ affirming, so that people of all identities and backgrounds feel genuinely met.
Experience
Alongside my private practice, I currently volunteer with Rape Crisis Grampian, and I have previously volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Support. Through this work I have gained valuable experience supporting people through grief, trauma, and the lasting impact of sexual violence. These experiences continue to shape my person-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive approach to counselling.
Member organisations *
COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC. It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information
My fees are between £45 and £50 per session, depending on whether we meet online or in person.
I also keep a small number of concessionary spaces for people who might otherwise find counselling difficult to afford. If cost is a worry for you, please just mention it when you get in touch and we can talk it through. I would always rather have that conversation than see someone go without support.
Further information
I offer person-centred counselling in a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
My practice is trauma-informed, which means I understand that difficult experiences, whether a single event or something that unfolded over many years, can leave a lasting imprint on the mind, body and nervous system. We'll work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you, with choice and control kept firmly in your hands. You won't be asked to share more than feels right, or to revisit anything before you're ready.
At the heart of my work is a relationship built on trust, safety and genuine care. I aim to meet you with warmth and acceptance, to truly understand your world from your perspective, and to be real and honest with you rather than hiding behind a professional mask. Within that kind of space, many people find they begin to trust themselves again, make sense of what they've been through, and move forward in a way that feels authentically their own.
I am also committed to inclusive, anti-oppressive practice. I work with people of all identities, backgrounds and communities, and I take care to recognise how systems of power and privilege can shape our lives and wellbeing. You are welcome here exactly as you are.
What sessions look like
We begin with a free, no-obligation 20-minute introductory call or meeting, so you can ask questions, share what's brought you here, and get a feel for whether we're a good fit, with zero pressure.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and offered in person, online (via Zoom) or by telephone, whichever feels most accessible for you. I offer both short-term, focused support and longer-term, open-ended therapy, and we'll shape our work together around what feels genuinely helpful for you.
Get in touch
If you'd like to find out more, you're welcome to get in touch with no obligation. And if I'm not the right person for what you need, I'll happily help you find someone who is. I know and trust a number of other person-centred counsellors, and we help people find the right fit between us, so you don't have to start your search from scratch.
