About me

Welcome to Narrative Knots. I’m Emma Mackintosh, a registered Pluralistic Psychotherapist and Counsellor with COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland), offering online Psychotherapy and Counselling. I have over twenty two years of experience supporting children, families and individuals that have faced various difficulties and complex trauma within their lives.

We are all human and life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and no matter how hard we try, things can still go wrong. Often, we don’t realise when stress begins to build up, or struggle to pinpoint what's actually going on inside us and our relationships. Sometimes, it feels easier to simply ignore our emotions, push through, and hope things will get better. Yet, we often lean on coping strategies that, while comfortable and familiar, might be adding more obstacles for us to overcome.

If you’re feeling burnt out, drained, disconnected, or not like yourself, taking the time to pause, reflect, and care for yourself can be a powerful and healing gift. You also don’t need to be in a crisis to seek therapy—therapy can help lighten the load at any point you are at. When do you get time in your every day life to reflect on yourself, your lived experiences, your relationships, your personal values and strengths?

As a compassionate and experienced Psychotherapist, I believe that what works for one person might not work for another, and that even on different days, we may need different approaches. As a result, I keep my approach relational, collaborative and flexible adjusting our sessions to fit what works for you. I will support you as the expert in your own problems. I will bring my knowledge and experience to try and create a safe, confidential, supportive and reflective space for you to use in a meaningful way. It is hoped that the space we create together will give you time to reflect on ways forward that work for you - using your strengths, values and hopes.
