About me

Hello, I’m Emma, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (Prof. Dip Psy C) and NCPS Accredited Registrant.

I offer warm, neuroaffirming online and telephone counselling for neurodivergent and neurotypical adults across the UK. My practice is open to people of all identities and backgrounds, with respect for your individual experiences, culture and what matters to you.

Perhaps you’re feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed or exhausted, experiencing grief or loss, navigating difficulties in relationships or at work, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself.

You may have spent years adapting or trying to fit into expectations that haven’t always worked for you. Perhaps you’re exploring neurodivergence, making sense of a later ADHD or autism diagnosis, or experiencing masking or burnout - and beginning to understand yourself and your needs in a new way.

Or perhaps you’re supporting a neurodivergent child or young person. You may be navigating education or support systems, advocating for their needs and trying to hold everything together, with little space left for you.

Counselling offers somewhere that is for you. A space to make sense of what you’re experiencing, understand yourself and your needs more deeply, and explore what might help.

Therapy isn’t about changing who you are. It can help you understand what has shaped you, recognise what you need, and explore ways of living that feel more authentic, meaningful and sustainable for you.

You don’t need a diagnosis, to be at crisis point, or to have everything figured out. You can come as you are, and we can start from there.

How counselling with me can help

I offer a compassionate, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and feel genuinely heard.

Rather than seeing you as a problem to be fixed, we can get curious about what you’re experiencing. Together, we can explore what’s happening in your life, notice patterns that may no longer be serving you, recognise your strengths and consider what you need going forward.

Counselling can provide space to:

  • understand yourself and your emotions more deeply
  • explore anxiety, overwhelm and low mood
  • process grief, loss or difficult experiences
  • explore what ADHD, autism, masking and burnout means to you
  • navigate the pressures of parenting or caring
  • develop greater self-compassion
  • understand patterns in relationships
  • explore identity and what matters to you
  • recognise your strengths and capabilities

My approach

My approach is warm, collaborative, integrative and neuroaffirming, with the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work. My practice is grounded in person-centred counselling, while also drawing on other therapeutic approaches to respond to you as an individual.

Being neuroaffirming means recognising that there isn’t one “right” way to think, communicate, process information or experience the world. Rather than seeing differences as something to be fixed or corrected, we can explore your experiences, needs, strengths and challenges with curiosity and without judgement.

This approach isn’t only for neurodivergent people. At its heart, it means recognising you as an individual and adapting counselling to you, rather than expecting you to fit a particular way of doing therapy.

Our sessions will be shaped around what feels most useful to you. Sometimes we might explore past experiences and how they are affecting you now. At other times, we may focus on what’s happening in your life today or explore practical ways to make things feel more manageable. When helpful, I may draw on psychodynamic ideas and CBT approaches alongside our person-centred work.

You’re welcome to bring notes, pause, fidget, look away, lose your train of thought or take time to work out what you’re feeling. There’s no expectation to communicate, process or engage in a particular way. We’ll work together at a pace that feels manageable for you.

What I can help with

I work with adults experiencing a range of emotional and life challenges, including anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, shame, burnout, work stress, caring responsibilities, life transitions, identity exploration and feeling stuck or disconnected.

I have a particular interest in neurodivergence, ADHD and autism, later diagnosis and self-discovery, masking, autistic burnout, parent-carer wellbeing and navigating environments or systems that don’t always fit.

You don’t need a formal ADHD or autism diagnosis to work with me, and you don’t need to be neurodivergent yourself to benefit from a neuroaffirming approach.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications & experience

  • I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and NCPS Accredited Registrant.

My qualifications include:

  • Advanced Diploma in Neurodiversity-Informed Practice
  • Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice
  • Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Skills & Theory
  • Level 3 Diploma in Hypnotherapy & Introduction to Counselling Skills

I work within the NCPS ethical framework, receive regular clinical supervision and undertake ongoing professional development.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than ten years in the corporate sector and a further decade in education and the third sector, including supporting neurodivergent children, young people and their families. I also volunteered as a counsellor with Bristol Mind, supporting adults with a wide range of emotional and life challenges.

Alongside my professional experience, I bring lived experience as a late-diagnosed ADHD person and as part of a neurodivergent family. This has given me a personal understanding of navigating systems and expectations that don’t always fit, as well as the pressures that can come with advocating for a neurodivergent child or young person.

These experiences shape my neuroaffirming approach and my belief in understanding the whole person within the context of their life, relationships and environment.
