About me
Hello and welcome. I am Emma from Emma Atkinson Counselling.
I offer online and telephone counselling for adults experiencing periods of overwhelm, change, loss and emotional difficulty including anxiety, stress, bereavement, relationship challenges and life transitions. I also support clients in exploring past experiences and how these may still be affecting emotional well-being today.
Whether you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, looking for support through a difficult period, or are simply wanting a space to better understand yourself, I provide a calm, safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
I offer 50 minute online or telephone counselling sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own home or another space that feels right for you. My fee is £50 per session, and I also offer a limited number of reduced fee sessions for student/trainee counsellors.
My aim is to help you feel heard, understood and supported as you navigate life’s challenges and to work alongside you to help you to find your own way forward in a way that feels right for you. Starting counselling can sometimes feel daunting which is why I also offer a free 30 minute introductory call so we can see if we’re a good fit.
Experience
I am an accredited counsellor and registered with the BACP, with over five years' experience supporting adults through an NHS commissioned service across Teesside, insurance providers, as well as through an LGBT charitable organisation.
Areas I work with
My experience includes working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions and emotional overwhelm, alongside supporting clients in exploring the impact of past experiences and how this may still be influencing and effecting your emotional well-being today.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
