About me
I am an Integrative therapist. This means I work with clients both in a person-centred way and also psychodynamically. Being person-centred means sitting with a client as they process their pain. Psychodynamic means I like to make use of the past to enable a client to move forward and to create understanding and healing. I seek to help clients to understand why they are the way they are and why they do the things they do. I believe in non-judgement, acceptance, curiosity and empathy. I love to provide insight at times and honesty, which can help people to move beyond their current struggles. I enjoy looking at patterns which are leading to unhealthy lifestyles and to encourage clients to become their best selves.
The best part of this job is to see clients flourish!
I incorporate the outdoors with counselling. This can be in the form of a walk in the forest. I work outdoors because I believe in the power of nature and movement to revive and restore us. Movement can help us to take another step towards healing and I enjoy working with the body and using interventions such as walking, wild swimming or simple breathing & stilling exercises.
I work in a trauma informed way and enjoy exploring attachment.
I also believe in spirituality and faith and I'm open to exploring these things in client work if interested.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (Person-centred & Psychodynamic). I am 43 years of age and I believe this is what I was made to do. I love the depth of connection with people and I love witnessing painful stories and also to witness results and change that people often experience. I believe in equality and quite often I have found that I have learned as much from my client as they have from me.
Like anything, I believe it is how open a client is to the therapeutic process that will determine the outcome of our work together. I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship we foster is the key to opening a door to where transformation and change happens.
I have previous experience of working in a residential setting with children who have been in care. In this setting I trained in attachment and trauma.
I have 10 years of experience working with Crossreach Counselling, Inverness and ImagineIf, Newtownards, as well as creating my own therapeutic organisation, Wild Therapy. I love what I do and I hope to be part of your journey to emotional and physical well being.
At times and with permission, I tend to use a directive approach which often produces quite powerful results, so I believe in the power of a gentle challenge.
