About me

Hello, I’m Ellen, I am a warm, friendly and empathic therapist.  I offer a trusting and safe space for adults and young people to explore whatever it is you are experiencing or whatever your hopes are for change.  I am a qualified BACP registered Integrative therapist using predominantly a Person-Centred approach influenced by compassion and nature.  I offer long and short term work via Zoom, Face2Face and Walk & Talk.  I operate from North London and the Essex Coast.  My role is to be beside you, guiding you forwards with a greater sense of self, clarity and calmness.

How I work

As an Integrative and essentially Person-Centred therapist, I place you at the heart and incorporate aspects of other therapies we feel might be best suited to you, such as Psychodynamic, which considers our pasts, ACT takes in a cognitive approach or Play, Compassion and Nature Therapy which can add wholeness to our perspective.  If you are feeling anxious, depressed, finding it hard to cope, or just want to be listened to and understood confidentially, talking-therapy such this can often help us to feel more balanced and that things are more manageable.

What to Expect

I offer an initial free of charge 15-20 minute telephone call to check we are a good fit.  If we are ready to proceed, this would be followed-up with a 50 minute consultation session (fees apply).  We can decide whether long or short term work is preferable.  We would regularly check-in with each other to ensure you are receiving the right help and support as this is an important feature toward your progress and satisfaction.

Areas of Interest

My areas of interest are:  self-worth, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, work stress, depression, anxiety and managing change.  I work with all adults.  We explore ways to discover a greater sense of self-worth and confidence to trust in ourselves as we face life’s overwhelming challenges and changes.  My work with women includes overcoming and healing from dysfunctional relationships and women’s issues.  I offer support whatever age or stage of life we are in.

Young People

With years of experience in education and as a Place2Be trained counsellor I welcome working alongside young people.  I am particularly interested in supporting 18-30 year olds, as we overcome the huge changes and reflections arising from moving between childhood and adulthood and creating our own lives.  We can explore discovering a greater sense of self, autonomy, feeling comfortable within ourselves and identifying ways to better see our futures.

Past Clients

Past clients have remarked:

With the “kindness and understanding” they have received, they have been helped to “transform their own lives and their family’s”.

“Monumental”

Ellen helped me through a period of transition in my life and the difference from when I started working with her compared to when I finished is huge”.

Locations

I have locations in North London and the Essex coast.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a PGDip in Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction), a BSc in Psychology (2:1) and I am Place2Be trained (Levels 2-3) working with young people.   My background includes living overseas, working in the City and once becoming a parent I moved into education as a Montessori Teacher and Forest School Leader.  The ethos of these pedagogies of including nature, nurturing self-confidence and independence are features I integrate into my modality.  I have supported individuals and their families within the charity sector over several years and now currently work in Private Practice proudly bringing my depth of knowledge and life experiences into my work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
