About me
Hello, I'm Eleanor. As an integrative psychotherapist/counsellor, I welcome you into a confidential, empathetic, and collaborative space where you can express yourself freely.
We all go through times when life feels especially painful. When we need help to work through our problems or a period of transition. When the anxieties and uncertainty of this world make it hard to function.
Perhaps you know what brings you to therapy, or maybe you have a sense that something just isn't quite right. Either way, as bell hooks wrote, "rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion."
Together, we can better understand your past and present, untangle disruptive thoughts or behaviours, and help you imagine a future with more possibility.
Working integratively means I shape a range of evidence-backed approaches to your specific needs (including psychodynamic, relational, trauma-informed, existential and polyvagal approaches). Many of the people I work with identify as LGBTQIA+, and my practice is queer, trans, non-binary, relationship diverse, and kink friendly.
I am experienced working with ADHD, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, OCD, depression, questions or issues around gender, questions or issues around sexuality, bereavement, abuse, stress, obsessional behaviours, low self-esteem, burnout, alcohol and drug issues, relationship breakdown or conflict, work problems, and issues with family of origin.
Starting therapy is a brave decision, and may come with some nerves. I suggest an initial, free call for us to begin to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you may have about next steps.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered member of both of the U.K.’s national accrediting bodies: the U.K. Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I abide by their codes of ethics and professional practice, and work responsibly according to regulatory standards. I hold full professional liability insurance.
In addition to my years in private practice, I have experience providing low-cost counselling to communities in North London, and being part of a multi-disciplinary NHS mental health team focused on personality disorders. I am also a member of the assessment team for a local counselling charity.
Following six years of training, I obtained an MSc and a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute, one of the leading centres in the U.K. Before that, I studied Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at The Minster Centre.
I trained as a psychotherapist after many years working for international media organisations, and understand the pressures that can come from a corporate career. My own extensive experience as a client in individual and group therapy means I also know first hand how transformative this work can be. I consider the therapeutic space to be a rare gift.
My practice and work continue to evolve. To support this dynamic process, I participate in a range of Continuing Professional Development activities, encompassing the latest developments and research in the field. Recently, this has included trainings in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed somatic work. My work also receives regular clinical supervision from a senior colleague.
Sometimes, words can’t express the complexity of being human, and in these moments I enjoy working creatively. That can mean drawing on wider ideas from art, literature, or philosophy, and working with art-making, metaphor, or the embodied experience.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
