About me

Hello, my name is Eleanor and I am a qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist for children, young people and adults. I provide an empathic, warm, non-judgemental space, where together we can explore what is going on for you. I am an integrative counsellor, whereby I use a range of methods to suit the clients needs, including talking therapy and play therapy. I am particularly interested in exploring attachment styles with my clients as I believe our early attachments can significantly shape the people that we become. I also have a keen interest in working with neurodiversity.

I am currently offering online and walk-and-talk sessions for adults and face-to-face sessions for children; they are both safe and confidential spaces.

Training, qualifications & experience

Since completing my undergraduate degree in 'Children Young People and Families', I have completed a post graduate certificate course in 'Interpersonal and Counselling Skills' and a post graduate diploma in 'Counselling and Psychotherapy' at Leeds Beckett University which is accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I am therefore now a registered member of the BACP and work by their Ethical codes of practice.

I am very proud to say that I trained to be a children's counsellor with 'Place2Be'. Place2Be is a children's mental health charity that provides mental health support within schools. I worked within a school in Leeds with children aged five to twelve. Place2Be is a pioneer in early intervention. It helps schools understand and identify mental health problems, enable children and young people to focus on learning and give them tools to cope with challenges throughout their lives. Through Place2Be I have learnt play/creative therapies that are useful for children when they cannot verbalise their words.

These include:

  • Art therapy
  • Sand tray therapy
  • Sculpting
  • Writing
  • Singing/dancing
  • Lego building

These methods can help to stimulate the brain and encourage children to facilitate the exploration of their emotions.

I have gained profound experience and skills working for Place2Be that I have taken with me to my private practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
