About me

Hi, I'm Ebru. I am a MBACP-registered Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor available to help individuals wanting a place to discuss current or longstanding issues they wish to understand better. My approach to therapy is humanistic, relational and integrative; in practice this means I seek to understand you, your perspectives and experiences and offer a warm interest in your emotional wellbeing.

I believe we often instinctively know when thoughts or feelings trouble us, or keep repeating, that we might need time and space to explore and evaluate them within a safe and supportive relationship. I offer an open, collaborative and non-judgemental space where you can reflect, share your concerns and problems and explore them and your responses to them holistically. Working together, we can develop a clearer picture of what's happening in your life, process difficult emotions and define your needs and wants going forward. I work collaboratively and transparently with you so your therapeutic journey progresses at a pace that is both comfortable, and when you are ready, suitably challenges you to reflect further or reach for what you feel is most growthful for you.

The process of therapy I offer allows you to discover why you might be struggling as well as how things could be different by better understanding yourself and gaining the clarity, compassion, fortitude and sense of personal freedom needed to find and better align yourself with your authentic needs, goals and values. This might involve explorations of your past experiences, your thoughts, feelings and behaviours currently, as well as your fears, dreams and long-term aspirations. I believe this in turn, allows you to inhabit yourself in a more whole, strengthened and empowered way.

Therapeutic needs and goals are unique for each person but improved authenticity, confidence and presence in your life and relationships is possible.  Ultimately, you are the expert in your life and have the capacity to shape this into one that is meaningful and fulfilling. Reach out to begin exploring what this might look like for you. I look forward to supporting you on your journey.

How I work

I am trained in Gestalt, Person-Centred and Transactional Analysis approaches and philosophy and use these to help me understand you, your history, your relationship with yourself, your environment and those you are in relationship with.

I am trained to work with a wide range of issues and have a particular interest in difficult interpersonal relationship dynamics (personal, professional and familial), shame, anger and anxiety and work frequently with experiences of intergenerational trauma and with individuals wishing to explore issues of cultural/cross-cultural identity development and marginalisation.

My Values

I am deeply interested in people’s experiences of the world and alongside my psychology and psychotherapy training, I am influenced by many thinkers in the fields of philosophy, sociology and politics. As such, I strive to consider the personal as well as the environmental and cultural landscapes of people’s lives recognising that we do not live in a vacuum and that context and perspective are vital, varied and can be enriching as well as complicating factors. I consider openness and continual reflection upon this complexity to be a fundamental underpinning of my approach. I am committed to respect and honour your uniqueness within our work.

Next Steps

Finding the right therapist for you is an important part of the work and is why initial sessions are an opportunity for you to explore how you feel working with me and for me to answer any questions you might have about our work together.

Our initial appointment provides a space for you to discuss what brings you in for therapy currently, any areas you wish to focus on within our work and how I can help you with the goals you want to work towards. If you are happy to work together, we can agree a particular timeframe or agree to work on an open-ended basis, refocusing throughout the work as needed.

I am based in Enfield and offer both in-person and online appointments. I will soon be opening spaces near Holborn/Chancery Lane. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to enquire about current availability. I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
