About me

Many people who come to therapy are thoughtful and self-aware. You might have thought a lot about the way you feel, your behaviour, your relationships. Maybe you have made an effort to change, but feel like you're unable to get out of these loops. This is where therapy can help.

My name is Dorothea. I am an Integrative Counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy).

I often work with people who are experiencing:

  • repeating relationship patterns
  • family estrangement
  • overthinking and rumination
  • low self-esteem
  • toxic shame
  • inability to set, and stick to, boundaries
  • obsessive or intrusive thoughts
  • identity struggles and feeling like an outsider
  • loneliness

The experience of feeling like an outsider - of being queer, non-white, moving between class contexts, or feeling like the black sheep - can shape your sense of self and belonging.

Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to simplify and censor yourself to be heard. Together, we explore the parts of you that learned to cope and adapt, creating the possibility for meaningful, lasting change and a more authentic life.

I am warm, engaged, and thoughtful. I won’t simply agree with you, but will help you notice patterns in your life and relationships so that things can become clearer.

How I Work
I offer a reflective, grounded, and collaborative space. My approach is relational, meaning the therapeutic relationship itself is an important part of the work.

We explore what is happening in your life now, as well as the experiences that may have shaped you, including early relationships and family dynamics. I draw from trauma-informed, psychodynamic, and body-aware approaches, adapting our work to your needs.

The First Session
Starting therapy can feel daunting. You don’t need to prepare or know exactly what to say - we will go at your pace.

Our first session is a chance to explore what has brought you to therapy and to see whether working together feels right for you.

If something here resonates, you’re welcome to get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
