About me
*Please note: I am currently on leave until Thursday 20th March*
I'm a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist offering 1-to-1 online or telephone therapy sessions to support your wellbeing. I work with adults aged 21+ who live in the UK. I currently have availability for new clients who can attend daytime appointments on weekdays.
How can I help?
People come to therapy for a load of different reasons:
- It could be you want to talk to someone about what’s been happening but you’re worried people won’t listen or won’t understand where you’re coming from
- Maybe you’ve realised you’ve been struggling to cope or you find yourself overthinking, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or numb
- Perhaps you want to do some personal development or you feel like you don’t know yourself anymore
- …or maybe you’ve reached a crossroads in your life and you don’t know which way to turn
If you’re reading this and thinking ‘yeah, that’s me’, I can offer a calm, caring and supportive space where we can talk through what’s been going on, start figuring things out and hopefully find a way forward.
I’m trained in the person-centred approach to therapy and during our sessions, we can explore whatever issues you'd like to bring to therapy at your pace. In other words, I won't rush you or push you to talk about anything you don't want to.
What to expect in our first meeting
Depending on how you’ve decided to access therapy, I would either send you a link to the secure online platform I use or give you a call at the time we’ve agreed. Our first meeting would give us an opportunity to talk a bit about what’s been happening and what has led you to reach out for support. I’d also ask for a few details about you and your history.
The appointment would last somewhere between 30-45 minutes which I offer at a discounted rate of £25 because I know how expensive it can be to search for a therapist who feels right for you. Hopefully, the session will give you a taste of how I work and you can see if my approach is what you are looking for. At the end of the session, we might decide straight away about whether we can work together or you might want a bit more time to think about it. Either way, there is no pressure to carry on past that first appointment.
Next steps
I know from personal experience how daunting it can be to reach out for support, especially when it’s from someone you don’t know.
- If you’ve read this far and you’re unsure about getting in touch, you can find more information on my website at https://domjamescounselling.co.uk (this includes the answers to some frequently asked questions as well as my privacy policy).
- If you’ve already decided you’d like to book in for a first session or you’d like to know more, you can contact me either by filling out the form on this page or by using the contact details above and we can go from there. Where possible, I aim to respond to enquiries within 1 working day. I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
