About me

Hi, I'm Dom. I'm an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist offering 1-to-1 online or telephone therapy sessions to support you. I specialise in working with adults and I currently have availability to see people who live in the UK.

How can I help?

If you're reading this and wondering about whether to take that first step into the world of therapy, it might be because:

  • you’ve been struggling to cope or you feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or numb
  • you want to talk to someone but you’re worried people won’t listen or won’t understand
  • you feel like you don’t know yourself anymore or you want change
  • you’ve reached a crossroads in your life and you don’t know which way to turn
  • …or maybe you feel like there’s something wrong but you can’t put your finger on it

If that sounds like you, I can offer a calm, caring and supportive space where we can work together to talk through what’s been going on, start figuring things out and hopefully find a way forward.

I’m trained in the person-centred approach to therapy and during our sessions, we can explore whatever issues you'd like to bring to therapy at your pace. In other words, I won't rush you or push you to talk about anything you don't want to.

What to expect in our first meeting

Our first meeting would be around 45 minutes or so and this would give us an opportunity to talk a bit about what’s been happening and what has led you to reach out for support - I’d also ask for a few details about you and your history.

The meeting will give you a taste of how I work and hopefully help you decide whether my approach is what you’re looking for. I offer this at a discounted rate of £25 because I know how expensive it can be to search for a therapist who feels right for you.

Afterwards, we might decide to work together and book in another appointment straight away but there is no pressure to commit to further sessions - you’re free to go away and think about it if you’d prefer.

Next steps

I know from personal experience how daunting it can be to reach out for support, especially from someone you don’t know.

  • If you’ve read this far and you’re unsure about whether to book in, you can find more information and the answers to some frequently asked questions on my website at https://domjamescounselling.co.uk. You can also book in a free 20 minute call using the button at the top of the page.

  • If you’ve already decided you’d like to book in for a first session, you can contact me either by filling out the form on this page or by using the contact details above and we can go from there. Where possible, I aim to respond to enquiries within 24 hours. I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
