About me

I began my counselling life as a ChildLine counsellor back in 2006 and soon wanted to become properly qualified to work face to face with adults too. I saw the huge benefits of counselling therapy and the courage it takes to start the process. So I work really flexibly offering as many or as few sessions as wanted and in whatever way seems right. The control must be in your hands. I have a lot of experience in many areas and I now work mainly on the telephone and online which adds to the flexibility. I am qualified as a clinical supervisor for other counsellors and students and a bereavement support volunteer with Cruse.

Therapy overview

While studying for my Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling I trained at my counselling placement and became a certified focussing oriented trauma practitioner. This has remained an interest and I have done several trainings in the area since.

Following qualification I continued to work at the counselling service where I did my placement. In addition to self-referrals I worked with referrals from GPs which were funded by the NHS and from charities who dealt with asylum seekers and domestic abuse. Eventually I began working as a private practitioner.

During the Covid pandemic my clients transferred to online and I also worked for a Local Authority carers association supporting carers through the lockdowns. This was when I took my first qualification in online and telephone working and when I took a qualification in supervision it also included online and telephone working. Now I work principally online or on the telephone including my bereavement support work with Cruse.

I tend to take courses in anything I find interesting and that will help my clients.

My Approach

My approach is very much individual to the client and in collaboration with them. So I regard myself as 'integrative' I take sessions on a week by week basis to suit the individual client and their circumstances.
I strongly believe in therapy being in the control of the client while being encouraged and supported by their therapist to an understanding of their situation and what and how they want to change in their lives. The most important thing is that you find the right person for you; a person you can be comfortable talking to. If that turns out not to be me i will happily help you to find the right person.

I am qualified as a clinical supervisor

I had always valued my own supervision so highly and enjoyed peer support in group supervision that I was prompted to train as a clinical supervisor. Basically I see you clients as being my responsibility but I meet that responsibility by looking after you.

Supervision Overview

I offer online supervision which I find very convenient for most people but can offer face to face supervision, locally to me, at your own place of work.

I always offer the first session free of charge to establish that we are a good fit. I have had a number of supervisors over the years and heard others' talk about theirs and feel that it is important to be sure you are going to get from supervision what you need professionally.
