About me

I’m an experienced and qualified Person-Centred Counsellor / Psychotherapist.

I offer one to one individual counselling, working with adults, teenagers and children in my tranquil private practices, based in Shrewsbury and Carlisle

I am currently working in person in my private practice, offering face to face counselling, online and telephone counselling.

I also offer walking and talking therapy sessions.

As your counsellor, I work with you, alongside you in a gentle and empathic way, honouring who you are, your struggles, your unique journey, listening to how it is for you and what that means for you. As we work together to explore what it is that may have brought you to counselling, I will safely accompany you, and work with you in a way that feels right for you, at your pace. Person Centred Counselling is a talking therapy where you can be listened to and heard with respect, care and authenticity.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling/ psychotherapy work has been within a medical setting, throughout the last 8 years, providing support to adults, families and children.

My therapeutic work has involved work with adults and children, through bereavement, loss and pain. I have experience within the same clinical setting of working with clients through complex childhood trauma and loss. Counselling work has encompassed working with clients through acute and chronic illness.

I have experience of working with young people and children. Where children may not have the vocabulary or awareness to understand or express their emotions or what is happening for them, this can create distress and confusion. I offer experience of working with children and young people creatively, enabling them the opportunity to communicate their feelings and felt senses in a way which feels natural to them.  I have worked with young people and teenagers to find coping strategies whilst facing the challenges of bereavement, family illness and family breakdown.  Supporting them at times of exams and the challenges of life as a teenager.

I am also a fully qualified teacher and worked as a primary teacher for 21 years. I have a deep and vast understanding of complex family dynamics and experience of working with families.

I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

I am a qualified Supervisor.

Safeguarding level 3

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Person centred Counselling / Psychotherapy. (Pgdip), Cumbria University, Lancaster.

I am a qualified teacher, PGCE, Birmingham University.

Ba (Hons), Leeds University.

I hold a full and registered membership to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

I have regular professional supervision in accordance with the ‘Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions’ (2018).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As a Person Centred Counsellor I can also work with you creatively to promote psychological change and healing. It may feel more natural for you to communicate your inner struggles in a creative way. Using creative means of communication can often bring light to what cannot be seen on the inside. This may be through,

Art Imagery Metaphor and symbols Writing, poetry, story, Music, Sand tray, and small world therapy, Play therapy

Working theraperutically this way, can be a particularly empowering experience for any age, to connect with the creative parts of self. Tapping into your creativity, connects you to your strengths from which you may find the resilience and courage to work through trauma, pain and loss.

I have particular experience of working creatively.
