About me

  • Do you feel stuck, as though you’re no longer quite yourself?
Perhaps you find yourself people-pleasing, hoping it will keep things calm and avoid conflict.
  • Maybe anxiety or low mood have begun to creep in, and you’ve started to withdraw from the things you once enjoyed — leaving you wondering, who am I now?
  • It could be that a traumatic experience has left you feeling on edge, fearful that you may never feel okay again. Or perhaps you’re carrying the pain of losing someone you loved deeply, and everything feels different now.

If any of this resonates, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to navigate it on your own. Counselling and EMDR Therapy can help.

How Therapy Can Help

Many clients tell me that counselling provides them with a safe and supportive space where they can speak openly, honestly, and without judgement. Being able to share thoughts and feelings that may have been difficult to express elsewhere often helps people begin to understand themselves more deeply. Together we explore the roots of the difficulties they may be experiencing, helping them develop greater self-awareness and confidence as they move forward.

As this understanding grows, clients often begin to feel more able to make meaningful changes in their lives. Some improve relationships, set healthier boundaries, explore new career paths, or reconnect with parts of themselves they once felt they had lost. Others find that counselling helps them feel more comfortable in their own company and less fearful of being alone.

For those who have experienced traumatic events, EMDR trauma therapy can help reduce distressing symptoms such as flashbacks, anxiety, and disrupted sleep. Many clients notice that triggers which once felt overwhelming begin to lessen, and memories that were previously disturbing become far less intrusive. This can help people regain a sense of calm, safety, and control in their daily lives.

Clients who are grieving often value having a space where they can talk about their loved ones and honour their memories without feeling they are burdening family or friends. Being able to express these feelings openly can gently support the process of working through loss at their own pace.

As a therapist with lived experience of trauma, and someone who has personally experienced the benefits of EMDR therapy, I understand the emotional and physical impact trauma can have. Alongside my professional training and experience, this allows me to offer compassionate, informed support as you move forward on your own healing journey.

Lockyer Therapy, is based in the local area of Redhill which is set in the wider Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area. Why Choose Me?

Choosing a counsellor is a very personal decision, and it is important that you find someone you feel comfortable working with. I aim to provide a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever may be troubling you.

Experience

I am an experienced counsellor and EMDR trauma therapist who has been supporting clients since qualifying in 2006. Over the years, I have worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds who are experiencing many different challenges, including trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship difficulties.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked within the NHS since 2015 as a Senior Counsellor and Counselling Supervisor with Steps to Wellbeing. My work has included supporting clients through Employee Assistance Programmes, as well as working with adults who choose to seek therapy privately. Earlier in my career, I also worked one-to-one with young people in local schools and youth organisations.

My particular interest is in helping people who have experienced trauma. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a therapy recommended by organisations such as NICE for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. EMDR can help people process difficult memories so that they no longer feel as overwhelming or intrusive.

My aim is to work alongside you at your own pace, helping you gain greater understanding of yourself, develop confidence, and move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
