About me

Hello, my name is Dr Danila D’Errico, though most people call me Dani. I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist, currently based in the United Kingdom. As a Practitioner Psychologist, I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Originally from Italy, I have lived in the UK for over ten years. Working across languages and cultures has influenced how I think about identity, belonging, and emotional experience. I offer therapy in both English and Italian, and I am attentive to the role that language and cultural context can play in how we understand ourselves and others.

I chose to train as a psychologist out of a long-standing curiosity about people’s inner worlds and the different ways individuals make sense of distress, relationships, and change. I was particularly drawn to approaches that seek to understand emotional pain within the context of a person’s life story, rather than reducing it to something being “wrong” with the person and offering quick solutions. Over time, I have come to appreciate how powerful it can be for someone to feel genuinely listened to and understood, especially when they may not have had that experience before.

Alongside my private practice, I work within the NHS in adult mental health services. The service I work in specialises in supporting individuals with a history of trauma, complex interpersonal difficulties, and longstanding mental health challenges—often people who have previously accessed other services or therapeutic approaches (such as IAPT or CBT) without finding them helpful.

I genuinely love my work and see it as a privilege to be invited into someone’s life, even for a short time. aim to create a space where you feel listened to, supported, and met with compassion, and where therapy can progress at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you. In my work, I have supported people to explore past traumatic experiences and to understand relational patterns that can leave them feeling stuck, helping them move towards greater clarity, self-compassion, and inner peace.

What to Expect from Therapy

To begin with, I usually offer a free 15-minute initial consultation. This is an opportunity for you to share a little about what has been bringing you to therapy and what you might hope to gain from it. It also gives you the space to ask any questions you may have and to decide, in your own time, whether you feel comfortable starting your therapeutic journey with me.

Once we begin working together, the first few sessions focus on assessment and psychological formulation. This involves getting to know you and the difficulties you are experiencing, exploring relevant past experiences, and developing a shared understanding of what may be contributing to your current struggles. Together, we will consider which therapeutic approach is likely to be most helpful and appropriate for your needs. From this, we will agree on a treatment plan and move forward with the intervention itself.

I usually encourage people to attend sessions regularly, particularly at the beginning of therapy, and will typically offer weekly or fortnightly appointments. Consistency is an important part of effective therapeutic work. Throughout our work together, I actively encourage open feedback about the therapy, including how you are finding the sessions and whether the work feels helpful. We will review your goals on an ongoing basis to ensure we remain aligned and responsive to your needs.

Engaging in therapy can be emotionally and psychologically challenging at times, and occasionally this can also be felt physically. However, it can also be a meaningful step towards greater understanding, resilience, and quality of life. My aim is to provide a safe, supportive space in which we can make sense of your difficulties together and explore more helpful and compassionate ways of relating to yourself and others. I will be alongside you throughout the process, moving at a pace that feels manageable and taking things one step at a time.

Therapeutic Approaches

As a Clinical Psychologist, I work from an integrative and trauma-informed approach. This means I draw on a range of psychological models and adapt my way of working to each individual, rather than following a single approach or a one-size-fits-all model.

Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible, shaped by your needs, goals, and pace. Some of the approaches that inform my work include:

  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) – which focuses on recurring relational patterns and how these can influence the way we see and relate to ourselves and others.
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) – which helps individuals work with shame and self-criticism by developing greater self-compassion.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – which explores how thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours interact and affect emotional wellbeing.
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) – a trauma-focused approach that supports people in making sense of their life experiences and reclaiming their voice following trauma.

You do not need to know anything about these approaches for therapy to be helpful. We will decide together what feels most appropriate as the work unfolds.
