About me

How can I help:

Life can get on top of us at times, where we can feel overwhelmed, unable to cope or just stuck without a perceived way forward. I offer a safe and confidential space where troubling issues can be spoken about freely and without judgement. Having the freedom to discuss concerning issues can help identify unhelpful patterns and process difficult emotions and experiences which can allow us to heal, regain a sense of ourselves and move forward in life with a renewed vigour.

At the heart of therapeutic work is the relationship between myself and my client. Research has shown that the single biggest factor contributing to successful therapeutic outcomes is the therapeutic relationship, so I aim to foster a collaborative, respectful and accepting relationship from the outset of our work together . This is supported by my training in the three main forms of psychotherapy: humanistic (principally Gestalt therapy), psychodynamic therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.

My Experience:

I'm a Counselling Psychologist (HCPC registered) and Integrative Psychotherapist (UKCP Registered). I've been in practice for 8 years and work with a range of issues, not all of which are listed below, so feel free to get in touch to see how I may be of help to you. I work both online and face-to-face with practice rooms in Oxford Circus, Shoreditch and Wimbledon.

My doctoral research was in the area of assisted dying. This is an important topic which can generate many strong emotions for those who are terminally ill and their relatives and loved ones, particularly with the introduction of the assisted dying bill in both the English and Scottish parliaments. Please get in touch if you feel you have been impacted by this topic and you would like to work through your experiences in more depth.

Initial Conversation:

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to answer any questions you may have and to initially explore the types of concerns that are bothering you. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a convenient time for us to connect on the phone.

My qualifications are:

  • I have registrations with the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council), UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As briefly mentioned, my doctoral research was in the area of assisted dying. This is an emotionally charged and ethically complex topic that sits at the intersection of medicine, law, morality, autonomy, disability rights, and end-of-life care.

The introduction of assisted dying bills into both the English and Scottish parliaments may change the legal status in the future, but for now, people may still live with the wish to die, and families may live with the strain of uncertainty, conflict, secrecy, fear of legal repercussions, or the moral distress of feeling powerless.

Therapy & psychological support can play an important role for individuals who are impacted by the topic of assisted dying. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your own experiences.
