About me

Hi, I am Catherine. I am a friendly and approachable counsellor, offering in-person (Rochester, Kent ME1) and online counselling for adults over 18 with a range of issues including: anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), depression, bereavement and childhood bereavement, low self-esteem, panic attacks, PTSD, trauma, relationship and family issues, and also the potential life challenges of neurodivergence such ADHD and Autism. What brought me to counselling is personally knowing the benefits of therapy and the positive impact it can bring to people's lives. I offer a supportive space, where you're free to talk through whatever's on your mind, without pressure or judgement.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked as a counsellor for Cruse Bereavement Care and have received their specialist training. My experience also includes providing counselling in universities and colleges. So I have worked with all age groups with a variety of issues. I also have in-depth training and experience of supporting people with autism, ADHD and other neurodivergence.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I have specialist qualifications in bereavement. I also have a level 5 diploma in Understanding Neurodiversity and have completed Autism awareness training via the National Autistic Society. I am currently undertaking a Master's degree in Applied Clinical Psychology at Canterbury Christchurch University.

My core therapeutic approach is Person-centred therapy - a powerful non-directive approach which centres on you as an individual, creating a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I also work integratively which means that I may use a blend of different therapies to best support your unique needs.

I appreciate that reaching out for support - especially for the first time - may feel a little daunting, so I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. This conversation gives you a chance to get a sense of how I work, ask any questions, and explore what you’re hoping for from counselling.
