About me
I am an experienced counsellor based in the heart of the Lake District with my own dedicated therapy room, offering unique views of the Cumbrian mountains. My space is a peaceful and comfortable place for clients to visit if you prefer face to face sessions. However, I also offer online counselling because I understand that talking in your own environment sometimes feels a better fit; and feeling comfortable with your therapist is incredibly important.
I am happy to offer long or short term therapy depending on individual need (which I will always listen to). I always strive to put my clients at ease and I like to adopt an approach that is friendly and warm. I don't like to overcomplicate things because I know that counselling can already feel overwhelming enough. Therefore my approach always relies on two key principles: authenticity and compassion, which I hope to be able to share with you through therapy.
Please get in touch to arrange an introductory chat over the phone. This won't commit you to therapy sessions with me in any way, but just offers a chance for you to ask any questions and to decide if I'm the right therapist for you.
Client Testimonials
“I lost my husband in 2022 and last summer I was very low. I knew I needed to speak to someone and was lucky enough to find Catherine. She has changed my world. She has created a safe, non judgemental space where I can talk about anything and everything (and I do). She has helped me so much with learning how to manage my feelings and anxiety and helped me find some joy in life again. I can’t thank her enough.”
“I had considered therapy for over a year but kept convincing myself I didn’t need it. Unfortunately, I reached breaking point and decided to seek help. With some quick research online I read Catherine’s profile and immediately thought she’d be the right fit for me. I feel very lucky to say she was certainly that. Catherine created a warm, safe and relaxed space for me to open up. She has an innate ability to make you feel at ease and a magic power to help you explore your feelings, reflect and find the positives in life, no matter what struggles you are facing. I would 100% recommend Catherine to anyone. My only regret is not finding her earlier. ”
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Masters degree from the University of St. Andrews and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Since qualifying as a therapist, I have continuously undertaken additional training courses to make me the best practitioner I can be.
My qualifications are important because they enable me to deliver professional counselling to my clients, but even more importantly, they are supported by my lived experiences in diverse and challenging professions. I have previously worked in the prison service, the NHS and the police, meaning that I have a broad range of experiences that have shaped the person I am today. My ability to listen and support others has always been at the heart of my professional career, and I believe I have incorporated this in to what I am able to offer as a therapist.
Quite simply, if things are feeling overwhelming at the moment, I will support you with warmth and empathy and we can begin working through it together.
