About me

A note before we begin
Trying to find the 'right' therapist can feel a bit overwhelming… there's lots of things to consider, but it can feel difficult to get a sense of the actual human you might be sitting with.

This profile is my attempt to offer that: a small glimpse into what therapy with me is actually like. It’s still just text on a screen, I know - but perhaps a step closer to feeling it out.

If something here resonates, you’re very welcome to book a free, no-pressure intro call. The relationship you build together with your therapist really is at the heart of good therapy - and it’s okay to take your time figuring out what feels like a good fit.

Not sure where to start? You don’t have to figure it all out alone
I’m Carys - a down-to-earth, warm, and compassionate therapist. My work often focuses on anxiety, self-worth, and the impact of relational trauma. I work with adults of all genders, offering space to make sense of what you’re carrying and find a bit more ease in your everyday life.

I’ve supported people through a wide range of experiences, including anxiety, low self-worth, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, coercive control, sexual violence, infidelity, and difficult childhood experiences.

What therapy with me is actually like

  • Not all tears and tissues
Therapy can be emotional - but it isn’t only heavy. There’s room for the odd swear, moments of relief, and even laughter alongside the hard stuff.
  • You’re invited to bring your whole self
The messy bits. The parts that feel ashamed, stuck, skeptical, or unsure therapy will even help. You don’t need to perform insight or arrive with everything neatly packaged. We start exactly where you are.
  • Come as you are
Suit or sweats - there’s no dress code. No 'right' way to sit, speak, or show up. Therapy with me is collaborative and human, not clinical or distant.

A real, relational way of working
Our work is shaped by the relationship we build together. You’ll be met with empathy, honesty, and care - and, when it feels helpful, perhaps a gentle challenge to help loosen what’s keeping you stuck. Nothing is too much, too 'small', or too complicated to bring.

An approach that fits you
I offer integrative therapy grounded in person-centred values - meaning you’re always the expert on your own life. I draw from narrative therapy, existential thinking, and solution-focused approaches to support you in understanding your story, reconnecting with yourself, and moving toward what matters to you.

There’s no one-size-fits-all model here. We shape the work together, at your pace.

My background
Before becoming a full-time private practitioner, I worked as a counsellor in a specialist sexual violence service and with survivors of domestic abuse and childhood trauma. Before training as a therapist, I was a sexual health and relationships outreach specialist, supporting young people, LGBTQ+ folks, and sex workers.

This work shaped the roots of my inclusive, stigma-challenging, trauma-aware care.

Alongside therapy, I also train organisations in workplace mental health and wellbeing. Outside of the therapy room, I like to spend my time outdoors with a coffee in hand, befriending every dog - and the occasional donkey - I pass.

Want to explore working together?
Finding the right therapist is a really personal choice. I offer a free 15–20 minute introductory call so you can get a feel for how I work and share a little about what’s going on for you. You won’t be asked to make a decision on the phone - it’s just an informal opportunity to see whether it feels like a good fit for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
