About me
I want to help you live your life to the full. Life transitions and challenges can feel overwhelming, particularly in today’s world - maybe you feel isolated, disconnected from others, or even from your true self. Sometimes we can’t find the right words to explain it to those closest to us or it can feel like they’re just not listening.
With the right support, that can change. My aim is to offer you a safe, non-judgemental space, to share your thoughts and help explore any difficult and, perhaps unvoiced feelings. People often feel emotionally out of control, some overthink things, or repeat patterns in relationships or at work. I want to help you gain insight into why you feel like this, opening routes for change.
Type of therapy offered:
I offer therapy sessions face-to-face indoors, online, by telephone or outdoors in nature ‘Walk & Talk’ (fully risk assessed and insured), in Central Derbyshire. My in-person counselling sessions are based in Matlock.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualifications:
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) with a Master of Science qualification (with distinction) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (MSc). I am qualified to work with anyone seeking help with their mental health or life’s challenges. I hold a BACP certificate in counselling Young People and an Enhanced DBS Certificate.
Experience:
I have a holistic approach to good mental health and wellbeing and have extensive experience of working compassionately with individuals, from teenagers to older adults. My background includes delivering mental health clinics for GP-referred patients, counselling trauma survivors of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence via local charities and working as an NHS mental health nurse at the start of my career. My time as a school counsellor and within Derby University Counselling service has informed my academic research, which focused upon adolescent mental health/neurodiversity and family systems. I offer sessions in-person, online and outdoor in nature (please see my website).
My experience has given me an understanding of the difficulties we can all face with our mental health, enabling me to work with compassion and kindness as I support a wide range of life issues. I remain optimistic about human nature, believing that people can overcome adversity with the right support. Together we can explore and understand what’s going on for you, taking concrete steps towards improving your life.
The way I work:
My MSc training taught me to integrate elements from a combination of different methods and theories to help clients more effectively through their difficulties. These include Attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused therapy (CFT) and Person-Centred therapy (PCT), as required. I will adapt my approach to your individual needs and tailor any therapy to best suit you.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
