About me
Are you feeling anxious, low, or like you’re carrying something you can’t quite put down? Maybe life has thrown something at you — a loss, a relationship breaking down, burnout, or just a slow creep of feeling not quite right — and you’re not sure where to turn.
I’m Carol, a registered therapist based in Birmingham. I work with adults on anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, stress and life changes. I see clients in person in Birmingham and online anywhere in the UK.
Before training as a therapist, I spent many years as a marketing consultant, helping business understand and tell compelling stories, I also volunteered with charities that support people going through some of the most difficult periods of their lives. Those experiences gave me a real understanding of how people get stuck in patterns, and what it takes to move forward.
I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation. No commitment, just a chance to talk and see if working together feels right. You can book via my website (www.carolcaveneytherapy.com) or get in touch through the directory.
Training, qualifications & experience
I practice in an integrative way. This means I am trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches, and will combine these in which ever way best suits you. This approach acknowledges you as a unique individual and allows me to be more flexible and responsive to your needs.
Regardless of what brings you to therapy, several principles underpin my approach.
- I will always be honest and open with you
- I will always treat you as the expert on you - and never assume I know better
- I will not judge, no matter what you bring to session
- I will work to ensure you always feel supported, heard and safe to work through whatever comes up

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
