About me

My name is Carl Chapman and I am a Jungian Analyst and Psychotherapist working in Calderdale in West Yorkshire.

Jungian analysis pays attention to the unconscious aspects of the psyche and our relationship to them. This exploration can provide the conditions for movement towards wholeness, a natural process of human growth which Jung termed “individuation”. Suffering and symptoms are considered as meaningful in the journey towards becoming who we are truly meant to be.

Our work together may include illuminating historical factors that have contributed to your current experience, but would not be limited to this alone. The unconscious is also a wellspring of unrealised potential that may be accessed in service of the development of the personality.

Therefore, work with the unconscious may include paying close attention to images, symbols and dreams. Working with dreams, the imagination and creative expression is often, but not always, an important part of Jungian Analysis. The relationship between analyst and client can be another mode in which the unconscious communicates, and reflecting on this dynamic may also form an important part of analysis.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked as a talking therapist in the NHS for 10 years. During this time I completed my qualification as a Jungian Analyst with the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists (IGAP). I have also worked in a humanistic psychological crisis service and as a support worker for individuals with long-term mental health conditions. I also hold an MSc in Psychology.

I am registered with The Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists (IGAP); The International Association of Analytical Psychology (IAAP) and The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
