About me
Hello, I’m Dr Candice O’Neil, a HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist offering therapy to adults, young people, and couples. I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and provide both short-term and longer-term therapy depending on your needs.
I specialise in supporting adult survivors of childhood trauma, including complex trauma, Anxiety and PTSD. I have specialist trauma training and extensive clinical experience working with the long-term emotional impact of early adverse experiences. My work is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and grounded in strong clinical knowledge and psychological research. I have also contributed to national trauma-focused campaigns supporting the emotional wellbeing of vulnerable groups.
Alongside trauma therapy, I support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, emotional regulation difficulties, identity concerns, work-related stress, and relationship difficulties. I also offer couples therapy, and provide ADHD assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic care planning for adults.
In addition to my private practice, I have over 10 years’ experience working in the NHS, experience in private forensic mental health settings, and two years of voluntary work within the charity sector. This breadth of experience allows me to work with sensitivity, depth, and a strong understanding of complex presentations.
My therapeutic approach
I believe that at the heart of therapy are trust, safety, compassion, and transparency. I aim to provide a warm, confidential, and supportive space where you can explore your experiences in depth. My hope is that our work together strengthens your sense of agency in life, relationships, and work. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I bring skilled, evidence-based interventions grounded in theory while working with you towards your uniquely defined goals and desired outcomes.
Alongside my clinical work, I am regularly invited to provide expert psychological commentary on national television and in the press, bringing research-informed insight to wider conversations about mental health and trauma.
