About me
Seeking for help when you feel at your most vulnerable can be a daunting proposition. Looking for a therapist is no exception to this. A good psychotherapist or counsellor is someone who you can trust implicitly with your difficult experiences and suffering, have the ability to listen with compassion and without judgement and the will to help guide you to a more secure and contented state of mind.
Hello, My name is Brendan and I am an Integrative counsellor dedicated to helping people move towards a more positive and fulfilling life. I have supported individuals affected by a wide range of presenting issues:
Living with ADHD and Neurodivergence,
Suffering from Anxiety & depression
Addiction
Bereavement and Loss
and other challenges that we all face at different points in life.
I understand what it means to not be in a good place with your mental health and how difficult it can be to believe that positive change can happen for you. If you are looking at this profile you are currently hoping that talking therapy can offer the change you desperately need to come back to you...or even find yourself for the first time. Maybe you just need the right person to share the moment you currently find yourself in.
Talking therapy is transformational for many people. When you find the right kind of therapist or counsellor, and are able to forge a therapeutic relationship, change happens. Someone authentic, trustworthy, ready to listen, able to help you bear the burden and willing to help you move forward to where you want to be, this is the kind of counsellor i strive to be in my work.
I am currently available for sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays from afternoon onwards. I also have Friday sessions available by arrangement (including face to face)

Training, qualifications & experience
PDip Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy Level 6 (Distinction)
My core training is in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy which was BACP accredited course. This has allowed me to access a broad range of counselling interventions and techniques and to tailor it to construct a truly integrative and reflexive practice.
I have worked with people in Addiction services and through GP referrals on a wide range of presenting issues. This includes the newly bereaved, shame, anxiety, depression, familial problems and past trauma. ADHD and Neurodivergence is a field i am expanding expertise inthrough my client work and CPD.
I also have lived experience of diagnosed ADHD in adulthood which makes me well suited to help with people who are affected by Neurodivergence (whether diagnosed or affected in their relationships with someone ND) in a compassionate and constructive manner.
Alongside my professional profile as a counselling psychotherapist I also have a wealth of experience working as a workshop facilitator and creative practitioner working with communities and individuals on issues affecting mental health and wellbeing.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Having talking therapy can be a life changing experience. When we are committed to the process of therapy, personal growth and positive change can happen. However, I believe this is contingent on finding the right therapist. The therapeutic relationship is key in the long term effectiveness of therapy.
I offer a 20-30 minute consultation on our first get together to see if we are a fit to embark on a therapeutic relationship. When we have established we are able to work together, we will look at any therapeutic interventions you may have had in the past and what worked well...and what not so well. We will also explore what your expectations are of counselling and what you would like to get out of our sessions together. We will then organise regular 1hr sessions (usually every week or fortnightly).
I am an integrative practitioner. This means we have the option to tailor the talking therapy to suit your individuality. I have Narrative/Attachment narrative, Systemic and Psychodynamic sensibilities but also draw on Person Centred approaches. Having worked in brief and short term therapy settings I also am able to offer a solution focussed approach (including elements of CBT).
What you can expect from me as a counsellor:
A compassionate and empathetic listener who will seek to gain a true understanding of your life situation in order to help you move into a more positive and fulfilled state of being.
Someone who will not offer unsolicited advice but will challenge you where appropriate to help you move positively through therapy. I work in a relational way leaning on the immediacy of feelings and being authentic and congruent in the therapy room.
Someone who works within his competencies.
Someone who works to the BACP ethical framework and upholds ethical principles in the way I work.
