About me

ABOUT ME AND MY PRACTICE

I am an experienced psychotherapist who has helped many people through difficult times in their lives. I will work together with you to discuss, understand and resolve anything that’s on your mind. My priority is to create a space where you feel listened to and accepted. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and situation.

We will explore what is happening in your life now, experiences from your past, or patterns that might keep repeating. Together we can get curious about where these patterns came from, how they once helped you, and whether they still serve you.

I work with clients with a wide range of personal issues around depression, anxiety, OCD, bereavement, trauma, abuse, loneliness, stresses within the workplace, low self-esteem, relationship and sexual problems including performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction, struggles with intimacy, compulsive sexual behaviour and compulsive pornography usage

I have also worked with many clients from the LGBTQ+ community with issues surrounding sexual identity, shame, body image, chemsex, toxic masculinity and homophobia.

PRACTICE DESCRIPTION

I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can freely explore and express how you are feeling. I help clients gain a deeper understanding and meaning to their thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Working together, we can address any difficulties you are experiencing, find ways to move forward and implement positive life changes.

We will also look at ways you learned to fit in, and what happens when those ways no longer help.

I won't sit silently analysing you from across the room. I'll be alongside you, paying attention not only to what you tell me, but also to what happens between us, as patterns you experience elsewhere often show up here too. Together, we might be curious, notice those patterns, challenge things and sit with discomfort, always with warmth and care.

I work within an Integrative framework. This means I incorporate different psychological approaches according to what best suits you and your needs. I work with individuals on a short or long term basis.

My practice is based in central London near Oxford Circus and as well as in London SE11

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FIRST SESSION

In our first session, we will discuss your reasons for coming to therapy and what you wish to gain from it. We will talk about any previous therapy and also I will ask you about key relationships and any events that may have had an impact on you. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you have about counselling or psychotherapy. We will assess whether we are the right ‘fit’ and discuss further sessions if you want to continue with me as your therapist. And, of course, all of this is completely confidential.

You can find more information about me and how I work on my website https://www.benmarkstherapy.com. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me. I look forward to hearing from you.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
