About me

Having experienced the value of counselling myself, I developed a passion for how therapy can have a transformational effect on people and support the development of secure and lasting coping strategies through life’s challenges.

Life brings many kinds of challenges. Sometimes these are everyday problems - difficulties with our parents, or when we first become a parent… problems with our partner, or with the loss of a partner… pressures at work, or the stress of not having work… concerns about our lifestyle such as weight, drinking or smoking. Some problems build up gradually over time, while others suddenly “hit us in the face” and leave us feeling overwhelmed. I work with these types of problems, which often involves exploring deeper psychological issues that may sit behind these everyday struggles.

I offer a warm, grounded and collaborative counselling space where you can explore the issues you’ve identified, your personal goals, and what you want to change or understand. My approach is relational and integrative, grounded in a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect and genuine connection. We work together at your pace, focusing on what matters most to you.

My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you gently and without judgement as you make sense of your experiences. I believe each person has the inner resources to find their own solutions, and therapy can help uncover and strengthen those resources. I listen deeply, reflect thoughtfully, and offer gentle challenge when it feels helpful.

I work with adults, offering both in‑person and online sessions. I offer a free introductory call to help you understand if I am the right counsellor for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my counselling training through CPCAB, gaining qualifications at Levels 2, 3 and 4, culminating in the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. This training provided a strong grounding in relational and integrative practice, psychodynamic theory, human development, trauma, attachment and the impact of early experiences on present‑day patterns.

Alongside my formal training, I gained rich and extensive clinical experience through roles in various third‑sector organisations, and I continue to carry out voluntary counselling work. During this time, I delivered one‑to‑one therapy to adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological distress, including trauma, anxiety, grief, co‑dependency, low self‑esteem, addiction and relational difficulties. My work combined person‑centred practice with psychodynamic techniques, supporting clients to explore deeper emotional blocks and long‑standing patterns.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and my ongoing professional development has included training in Adult Support and Protection, Child Protection, Motivational Interviewing, Autism‑Informed Practice, Trauma‑Informed Practice, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Online and Telephone Counselling, Drug Awareness, Overdose Prevention, Alcohol Awareness, Suicide Prevention and Emergency First Aid. I also hold the ASSIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Certificate.

My clinical skills include psychodynamic counselling, integrative practice, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma‑informed work, relational dynamics, addiction recovery support, emotional regulation, family systems work and relapse prevention. These approaches allow me to work safely and effectively with both everyday life difficulties and deeper psychological issues.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working professionally as a surveyor and manager. This background gives me a grounded understanding of workplace pressure, responsibility and organisational stress. This experience informs my counselling practice today.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
