About me

We all have problems in life, but there can be times when we feel overwhelmed, low on resources, or confused about the best way forward. When our life doesn't seem to be working, its easy to become de-motivated and to stop doing what ever makes us feel better. We can get caught up in a habit of worrying and feeling stuck, and struggle to make sense of it all.

During times of stress we need additional support and a sense of perspective. This may not always be forthcoming and despite their best intentions, those close to us may give us unhelpful advice, or simply not understand. When our challenges seem to be longer term it's also common to want to avoid burdening others. For these reasons many people have found counselling to be helpful and supportive.

What Type of Issues Can Counselling Help With?

Being unhappy with our:

Emotions (Stress, anxiety, depression, sadness, grief, anger, fear, loneliness, shame, guilt)

Thinking (Confusion, limiting beliefs, problems making decisions, repetitive negative thoughts, worry, difficulty finding meaning in life)

Behaviour (Procrastination, actions that have unhelpful consequences, unhealthy patterns, phobias, self sabotaging behaviour, addictions, communication and confidence issues)

Body (Weight, body image, illness, disability, attractiveness, sexuality)

Life Circumstances: (We may not feel fulfilled in one or more areas of our life, or have experienced bereavement, loss, or a change that we are coming to terms with)

How I Work

From working with clients in different settings over the past 18 years I have found most client's just want to feel comfortable and safe sharing their problems without being judged, to feel understood and to be able to see their problems from a different perspective. Change is not always an easy process and from my own experience people don't usually seek counselling unless they are experiencing significant discomfort. While we all go through pain at some time in our lives, I believe suffering is optional and even the most difficult of circumstances can be improved in some way.

As a solution focused, Integrative Counsellor I work well with people who want to to make changes which will contribute to their well-being and prefer to have focused, practical support doing this. I am committed to working collaboratively with you to help you discover your own inner resources and to try different approaches that work more effectively for you.

I am an Accredited Counsellor with 18 years experience of working with clients in various settings. I also have a passion for personal growth and development, which has has led me to integrate a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, research and techniques into my practice. I have a special interest in the latest research on Neuro-Science as this field gives us a clearer understanding of how the mind works and how unconscious processes can inadvertently hijack our beliefs, emotions and patterns of behaviour. By understanding our unconscious programming we can explore ways of changing negative patterns, thoughts and beliefs and find coping strategies that work more beneficially.

I specialise in solution focused counselling, using a short number of sessions and can draw upon a wide variety of creative approaches, depending on what is most needed. These include:

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy
  • Person Centred Counselling
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
  • Transactional Analysis
  • EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique (helps to release emotional upset and trauma and calms the physical stress responses in the body at the same time. It is also a self help tool that is easy to learn and use)
  • Matrix Re-imprinting (Helps to release the impact of past traumatic memories and events safely and without re-traumatising. It brings greater insights and resolution and transforms how we react to similar triggers in the present and future)
  • Hypnotherapy & Relaxation techniques
  • Mindfulness
  • Rewind Technique (This is a powerful visual technique which teaches the brain to process traumatic incidents differently without any need to talk about the trauma. The success rate is over 95% and only requires just 2 sessions per incident!. Please note this service is free for War Veterans

What Can I Expect?
Some clients call for an informal chat, or make an enquiry by email first before deciding whether to book an appointment. I am happy to assist with any enquiries without any obligation. It is important that you feel comfortable with the Therapist you choose, and I am happy to provide information about what to expect before you decide whether working together is the right way forward for you

Usually counselling lasts for 50 mins once a week. It can be for a few sessions, as a one off session, or more typically it can continue over weeks, or months depending on what you prefer.

TESTIMONIALS

" Counselling helped me enormously following the breakdown of my long-term relationship. Our sessions enabled me to think much more clearly about the situation, to identify and come to terms with the issues my partner and I had experienced and eventually to move on to the next phase of my life."  Angela, Somerset

"I am so glad that I found Angela when I did, I felt comfortable with her really quickly and was soon able to talk at ease with her.Angela is very reassuring and has a very friendly nature.Angela made me realise that I was able to cope with the things in my life that I had for a long time been struggling with. Angela helped me with the tools which made it possible for me to deal with my issues and move forward in a positive way in my life.I feel so much better about myself and my life now and will be eternally grateful to Angela for this." Christopher ,aged 46,Wells

"Angela is a very caring, selfless person with a deep understanding of other people, their situations and dilemma's." Sarah 45, Somerset

" I first contacted Angela to try to understand how I could deal with the feelings of anxiety I was experiencing, in running what was becoming an increasingly hectic life style, juggling running a business and family. Our initial consultation came as a relief to me, as I felt the first step was by far the most difficult, but I needn't have worried as Angela not only put me at ease but clear objectives were agreed and set.

I found counselling sessions, coupled with relaxation a great help! After a number of sessions we reviewed the original targets and discovered, not only had they been met, but in most cases surpassed! Thank you Angela for your help."
