About me

I’m very much an advocate of being kind and compassionate to ourselves, especially when we’re having a difficult time. Yet I’ve often found this tends to be when we’re the hardest on ourselves, judging our emotional responses and questioning how well we’re coping. Although this seems to be a very human response, it can add to our levels of stress, upset and confusion.

In our work together I provide a safe and accepting space where you can share any difficulties you’re experiencing and make sense of your situation and how it’s impacting you. When you feel clearer about what’s making you feel the way you do, there maybe some decisions and changes you would like to make that we can explore together.

How I Work

As an Accredited Counsellor, Therapist and Coach combined, I bring all of my training, knowledge and almost 30 years of therapeutic experience to our work together. This helps us to work in a way that’s most helpful for you.

I draw upon a wide variety of creative approaches, depending on what is most needed. These include:

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy
  • Person Centred Counselling
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Visualisation & Relaxation techniques
  • Mindfulness
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  • Matrix Re-imprinting (changing limiting beliefs and associated memories)
  • Compassion Key
  • Rewind Technique for Trauma
  • Therapeutic Coaching

What Can I Expect?
Although how we work together maybe different from session to session depending on what’s most needed, during our work together we may:

-  Try techniques and creative approaches to move through any areas of              stuckness

- Discuss how the mind works and processes anxiety, stress and worry and how to move through intense emotions quickly and safely

- You maybe invited to try practical exercises  in-between sessions to find what works for you and helps

- Explore any limiting beliefs, thoughts, or past trauma’s that are impacting you

Experience
I’m an Accredited Counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been in counselling practice since 1998. Before training as a Counsellor I was a Holistic Therapist and my passion for learning different healing approaches has continued and has enabled me to bring a broad range of creative approaches to my work with clients. I have worked in a number of health and social care settings, including a GP Practice, Bereavement and Loss Charity, various helplines and a specialist Cancer Hospital. For the past 16 years I have worked for several EAP's (Employee Assistance Programmes) providing solution-focused brief counselling for employees of various organisations, including trainee Doctors. I also have a private practice in Somerset where I offer a blended approach to counselling, therapy and coaching depending on what’s most needed and client preferences for working together

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

“At a pivotal time in my life Angela’s patience, compassion, empathy and broad range of tools and skills have led me to trust her and become a participant in my own life. Over a period of time, with regular sessions I have managed to let go off a significant past trauma, anger and frustration and move forwards in other practical aspects of my life. Thank you!”

She provides practical tips and techniques for dealing with stressful and emotional situations. She has a wealth of knowledge and brings her experience to help your situation. Angela builds strong relationships with her clients and provides a safe environment for you to address your issues or concerns. I’m extremely grateful for her support.”

“I’m so relieved that I can now move on after months of fear and unknowing and I’m determined to find a way to manage my physical symptoms and live life to the full. Thank you so much for your help, support and kindness over this challenging time. Your wise words and the tools you gave me really helped me to get through it and equipped me to manage anxiety and remain positive, something I can take into the future.”

“I was going through some extremely heavy emotions and mentally in a dark place not knowing how to cope. With Angela's guidance understanding and support I have been given the tools not only to conquer my existing demons, but to face any other challenges that I approach."

" Counselling helped me enormously following the breakdown of my long-term relationship. Our sessions enabled me to think much more clearly about the situation, to identify and come to terms with the issues my partner and I had experienced and eventually to move on to the next phase of my life."

“Angela was excellent in helping me deal with traumatic incidents from my past which were causing me stress and difficulties in my work and personal relationships. Angela helped me to change my thought processes and I saw huge improvements in my work and personal life as a result. I now work with Angela a few times a year and can’t recommend her highly enough.”

"I am so glad that I found Angela when I did, I felt comfortable with her really quickly and was soon able to talk at ease with her.Angela is very reassuring and has a very friendly nature.Angela made me realise that I was able to cope with the things in my life that I had for a long time been struggling with. Angela helped me with the tools which made it possible for me to deal with my issues and move forward in a positive way in my life.I feel so much better about myself and my life now and will be eternally grateful to her for this."

" I first contacted Angela to try to understand how I could deal with the feelings of anxiety I was experiencing, in running what was becoming an increasingly hectic life style, juggling running a business and family. Our initial consultation came as a relief to me, as I felt the first step was by far the most difficult, but I needn't have worried as Angela not only put me at ease but clear objectives were agreed and set.

I found counselling sessions, coupled with relaxation a great help! After a number of sessions we reviewed the original targets and discovered, not only had they been met, but in most cases surpassed! Thank you Angela for your help."
