About me

Hi (and thanks for taking the time to view my profile and learn a little more about me).

My name is Andy, I am a psychotherapist specialising in EMDR. I am a BACP accredited practitioner with over 15 years experience working therapeutically with young people and adults.

Prior to establishing Head Camp, I worked within the NHS (CAMHS), a well-established Chester based Psychology service, Children’s Services, and a highly subscribed school-based therapy service within North Wales.

Built on a foundation of attachment-informed, compassion-focused practice, my primary therapeutic approach is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).

I am an integrative therapist; meaning I can draw from the multiple approaches I am trained and experienced with to meet client’s needs – matching my therapeutic approach to the individuals I support.

In addition to EMDR, I incorporate Mindfulness-Based CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), Person-Centred, Attachment-Focussed and IFS (Internal Family Systems) approaches…I also have a great selection of fidget toys, kinetic sand and Lego to utilise in sessions with children (and adults!)

I work with a wide range of presenting issues but have a special interest in working with attachment trauma and PTSD: Helping people heal from childhood trauma; whether as a young person healing in the here and now or an adult reflecting back on past experiences.

I primarily work as an individual therapist, but will also work with key figures in an individual’s life to move towards the goal of healing.

I work Monday to Friday offering early morning (before work/school), daytime and a limited number of evening appointments.

My in-person work is offered from a private, welcoming and safe office space. My office is located on the ground floor providing access to all.

As well as in-person appointments, I am trained and registered with ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online) and can offer phone and video appointments on request.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
