About me

Let’s start by acknowledging that going to therapy can feel slightly terrifying; understanding all the jargon, trawling through dozens of therapist profiles and then trusting a stranger not just with your life story, but probably some of the most difficult parts of it.

I know this (and so does any other well-qualified therapist) because having lots of therapy is a core part of our training. The benefit of this hands-on experience is that I understand the huge importance of working with whatever brings you to therapy gently, respectfully and without judgement.

Research shows that a good, trusted client-therapist relationship is the single most important factor in determining positive change, so getting a sense of how well you ‘click’ with your therapist is an important first step.

If we both feel the fit is right, we’ll work together to understand the experiences, thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are causing you distress. This part is essential and although it can sometimes be painful, my experience is that clients are often surprised to find they rather enjoy the process of understanding themselves better.

In terms of creating the changes you want, we’ll work in an Integrative and holistic way on psychological, emotional and perhaps spiritual levels, as well as practical and behavioural ones.

Integrative therapy means drawing on different therapeutic approaches, depending on the client's needs. The models I tend to favour are Person Centred, Existential and Body-Informed.

In other words, your individual, unique needs will guide the process and we may explore some fascinating but accessible teachings from philosophy to help you make sense of your experience.

Finally, I have ten years experience as a yoga and meditation teacher (including specialist training for stress, trauma and burnout) so am happy to help you incorporate breath-work, mindfulness and somatic techniques to re-balance on a physical level if this is of interest.

Thanks for reading my profile. If my approach sounds like it could be useful for you, I would be delighted to hear from you for an initial chat.

Training, qualifications & experience

So far, I’ve worked in the charity sector supporting survivors of sexual abuse and for a busy counselling service supporting a broad range of clients. Currently, I run a busy private practice, supporting adult individuals and couples with a wide range of issues.

I've completed specialist training in working therapeutically with Couples through the Grove Practice in London. I also undertake regular professional trainings / CPD and monthly clinical supervision with a highly experienced, senior psychotherapist qualified to oversee both my individual and Couples' work.

I’m a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and am fully insured and DBS checked.

Besides an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, I also have: a Philosophy BA Hons. degree, a Teaching Diploma from the British Wheel of Yoga, lots of life experience, a good sense of humour and a genuine passion for therapeutic work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I'm experienced working both in-person and also via video or phone call. I'm often asked which is 'best' and the simple answer is the one that's most comfortable and practical for you.

You may want to work in a hybrid way, coming along to sessions in-person when you can and working remotely when you can't, or booking in a few sessions in- person so we can get to know each other 'in the room' and then moving to phone/online when you feel more familiar and comfortable working with me.

My evening sessions are more limited and tend to be busiest, so may involve joining a waitlist. I work with a strictly limited caseload at any one time so I can offer my best time, energy, attention and flexibility.
